Anyone with a pom? Hubby has sd i can get a 4th pup once I get the money up. I am thinking about a pom. Anything I should be thinking about when I am looking for one? I wondered about your experiences with one. |
I had a pom for 12 years, she passed away a year ago from complications of Cushing's Disease. She was from a pet store (before I realized where they really got their puppies) and she was much more aloof than my yorkies, a barker and very territorial which could just be bad breeding. She was very pretty and could be sweet when she wanted to. She did mellow as she got older but was pretty hyper. She panted all the time when I asked the vet why she said she was a highly excitable dog. Very intelligent. I loved her but she was much different than the yorkie personality I was use to. I just fostered a pom puppy for the last month and she was a puppy mill rescue and very sweet and not aggressive at all, she was submissive to my Roxie when they got in to it a couple of times. She was not a barker but she was very high energy. I just talked to her new Mom and she said she was wearing her and her poodle out! lol. Just do your research and buy from a reputable breeder. I love the look of poms and their coat is much easier to take care of. |
4 Attachment(s) i have a pom!!! i think poms are a little diff then yorkies.. well as least mine is... Kaylee is a barker!!!!! but i guess could be an issue with any dog... also shes very independent... she prefers to sleep underneath the bed rather than cuddle with u on the bed... But then again my friends pom is very needy.. always needs to be on your lap and follows u everywhere... kaylee will only follow u if u have food lol... i think they are all a little diff... I def think u should go for it and get a pom!!! they're great dogs!!! Here are a few pics of Kaylee, my pom. There are no pom forums so i never get to show her off lol... Shes 6 yrs old... 1 Attachment(s) My sister has a Pom and my brother recently got a Pom as well. :) I will agree they are different than yorkies. Bella is protective, a comedian, loving, she likes to snuggle with my sister. Taffy my brother's Pom is a puppy still and developing we'll have to see how the little girl grows up, she's feisty. She barks at you when you don't pay attention to her. lol. I'll throw a picture in, this picture is of my brother's Pom puppy Taffy. Sorry about the quality of it, it was taken on my cell phone. |
Poms are fantastic!!!! My little Toby is a Pom and I absolutely adore him! He is such a sweet little guy. He can be yappy but to me this just adds to his personality. He has a less fluffy coats than other poms I have seen and I love this. I will post pictures later today! |

You can show us pics of Kaylee anytime!! She is a cutie!! |
Have two....both rescues...one belongs to our college daughter and the other is mine. Very different in personality. Snowboy wants to sleep right against me and makes me so hot. Moxy, again will either sleep under the bed or in a different room on a couch. Towards morning she joins us in bed. My two Pommies know when I even crack an eyelid in the morning and are begging for a scratch. No going back to sleep with them around.:D Snowboy was taken away from his mother most likely around 6 wks. and has socialization issues. We're working on them. Moxy, again, must have been around children because she loves my granddaughters. Please do remember, though, that Pommies have fur not hair like our Yorkies do. They require a much more thorough comb....getting down to the roots to take out the undercoat that tends to knot. Start young so that it becomes a normal routine and he/she learns not to bite when it pulls. Mine get combed every night. My two Pommies shed much more than my Yorkies so that needs to be addressed. Both Pommies are barkers when there's a noise they don't understand. When they're outside, though, they tend to not be the barkers.....the Yorkies are.:D Pommies also tend to want to overeat. My vet told me that Pommies don't know when to stop. I'm very strict with how much they get to eat. Exercise is a must to keep them trim and healthy. To me the most important thing to accept is the hair. If that bugs you, skip getting a Pommie. I do love mine. They are adorable. Have had 3 before these two. Good luck. ~Joanne~ |

The pics are so cute everyone. Thanks for sharing pics and thoughts. I want one! I understand the shedding which is why I had chosen a boston terrier which sheds less than a pom. But I can't get a pom out of my mind. It will be a while till I get the money up. |
