Any thoughts on what's wrong with this Chi? Here's a post from my friend: Hi Everyone ~ I am in a bit of a quandary here so...thought I'd bring this to the experts. First, this concerns my own dog, not a foster. Toby, my 3# Chihuahua, has been acting very strange the last 4 days and I am at a loss for a reason. He seems to be "on guard" at all times, often running around and barking at things that aren't there. In the evenings we always curl up with a blanket and settle in to watch some TV. Now he seems like he just can't settle in and get comfortable (he does not seem to be in pain but rather, just not comfortable with the situation as a whole). He grumbles the whole time and if one of the other dogs or I move he becomes very agitated and even lashes out at times but, again not at anything in particular. Now, the last 2 nights I have hardly slept as he is now behaving this way during the night as well. He will come flying out from under the covers and bark wildly at nothing I can see. None of the other dogs react to his behavior in any way...day or night. This behavior has me worried for 2 reasons ~ 1) He has always been very calm & laid back especially for a Chi. 2) I have had 2 dogs (1 owned and 1 foster) that developed Canine cognitive Disorder (CCD, almost like doggy Alzheimer Disease) and this is VERY similar to how it started with them though, I find this hard to believe as he is only 15 months old. Changes within the home ~ 1)My son moved out a week ago but, this did not seem to phase any of them as, none ever went into his room and, they are all used to him only being home on week ends which, will still be the case. 2)I have been getting ready for new flooring so there has been rearranging of furniture. Keep in mind however, that I have MS so this is a very slow process (I began before Christmas but this behavior only started 4 days ago). The other dogs will occasionally look at me as if to say, "What the heck are you doing?" but, they have all always just "gone with the flow", including Toby. 3) I brought in a new foster about a week ago ~ an intact male that is a Chihuahua/Jack Russel, weighs 12#s and, looks much like Toby (X 4). Being intact has not phased any of them and he & Toby made friends fast playing and napping together often. What ever is going on is escalating. Please tell me someone here has some thoughts on this??? Thanks, Tammy |
I am not an expert :aimeeyorkHi! Ihave a 5 month old chococolate and tan female chi who has take alot of patience and love from my son and I. I thought WE got her from a breeder but ultimately learned she was from a puppy mill:mad:. After reading your post twice all I can come up with is he is used to fosters leaving and maybe this little intact foster is making him feel insecure and overstaying his welcome in your precious Toby's eyes! Just a thought.
