Those with cats.. what do you feed them? I have my cats on purina one.. YES I know its bad for them, but they are very picky and all 3 have hairball issues and this is the ONLY food that they will eat so far that doesnt make them throw up on a daily basis. All 3 are overweight, they range in age from 9 years old to 3, all 3 were rescues, one was found as a 5 week old kitten and she has food issues, if she thinks the food is even getting a little low she will meow for hours untill you fill it. That all said, I want to get them on a better food. So I need some suggetions/expriences on what food you all feed and how well your cats do on it..thanks :) |

Thanks to the both of you for replying back. :animal36 My local feed store doesnt carry many selections of "higher quality" pet foods. They carry alot of diamond products and EVO so its a toss up between taste of the wild, felidae (we tried this awhile ago and they wouldnt touch it) and EVO wet. Im not a huge fan of diamond but when I did have my dogs on totw my cats would eat the food out of the dish , so I was leaning more towards them, at least its grain free and better for them. Im headed out to the feed store soon to see what I can come up with. Getting them to eat it will be the next challenge.. Thank you both again. |
I have had cats forever and have usually fed them a Purina product. One of my cats who is 13 years old has an allergy to red food dye, if she eats food with it, she will throw up! (figured this out by process of elimination!) So that might be something you could check with your food with them throwing up. |

thanks!! I will def. look into it. I bought a few cans of EVO and got some samples and they didnt touch it. :( and they love canned food. Im just glad I didnt go all out and purchase a big bag of the EVO. Im sure the strays in my area will eat the canned.. |
We feed Purina Natural's We have tried to switch to other Expensive food's & They never do good on it So we stick with purina. My Cat lived a Healthy life on it For 20 year's. |
My cat eats Special Kitty Indoor. She was eating some stuff in a purple bag that I can't remember the name of, but it was high quality. I wish I could find it again. I tend to buy the more expensive, because that usually means that it's better for them. I'm not on the up and up with cat food, so I don't know much about name brands. |
D'art is 2 and Simba is 14, they're on Acana Pacifica. Which they love. :) Simba has hyperthyroidism and he lost a lot of weight, he went from like 18 pounds to 9 pounds. They have been on Acana for two three weeks and simba has already gained weight. He looks so much better. From now on, they'll be eating Acana. |
My Cat eats the Life's Abundance premioum Cat food. Most people probably don't know that they make cat food too but they d and its awesome. Also they have a great hairball trwat I use (and they LOVE!!) Here is thier website for cats. they have great healthy products! You can even order samples: TrilogyOnline - Our Cats Its great. |
Don't smack me, but mine eat Iam's Weight Control + Hairball remedy. I know Iams is bad, but with 3 cats that eat a LOT (they weigh 12, 13, & 16 lbs each and aren't fat which is why we use the weight control so they won't be) it's just more feasible for us to by the big bag of Iams that lasts a while. Petsmart puts it on sale a lot so that's what DH gets them. But don't worry, Sophie does eat much better than them. She eats Fromm's. :) |
It took forever to get mine changed over to an all natural food, they are sooo picky. They now eat California Natural Chicken and Rice. I would recommend you look and see what protein is in the food you are currently feeding and look for a higher quality food with the same protein source. Many cats prefer a fish based food but mine are of course the strange ones who wouldnt touch them. Try mixing the new food with the old food for awhile also and slowly adding less and less of the old food until you are adding none. Changing to an all natural food really benefited my cats, I saw a lot less throwing up and one who had severe allergies is now fine. However, if all else fails... chalk it up to stubborn cats and let them eat what they want! :p |
Our cat eats Wysong Nurture w/pheasant. It's a canine/feline kibble that I trust and one of the few kibbles that does not make our old cat sick. I've tried numerous "cat foods" and his delicate system just can't tolerate anything but the Wysong. |
