Question about an upcoming canine vistor In october my cousin Becca is coming to visit (woohoo) and she is bringing her Bichon, Paris. When Layla was a puppy i lived with Becca for a few months so Layla LOVES Paris- and Paris, bless her heart, puts up with LAyla acting like the crazy puppies she detests. Every time we visit the soo, Layla sees Paris and they get along great (Layla has been know to be a bitch, but Paris is SO mellow- Layla loves her). So, two issues 1) I'm a bit worried Layla is going to have an issue with Paris being in HER house- as was the issue with the cat when we babysat it. I was thinking of having Paris be outside and we could go say hi out there and then come in together. Does this sound good? I'm also going to feed them separate since Paris is free fed kibble and Layla isn't 2) Paris marks. If another dog has peed in the house- Paris pees. Layla, being a puppy once, has had accidents. Any idea what to do about this? I can't tell her NOT to bring her dog because then she can't come and she is coming while my parents are away so i'm SO excited- but i don't want her dog peeing everywhere... Thanks guys. |
Most definitely meet off of both of their territories. Maybe the street? You could go spend about a million bucks in Nature's Miracle and use it in a carpet cleaner. Then Paris shouldn't even know that Layla has peed in there. I'll bet there are cheaper cleaners out there that break down enzymes... |

I know this is old but October just started so maybe you still need suggestions :) First, we dog sit a lot and have brought many other dogs into our house. We always take them outside and have them meet and then come inside. We rarely have any problems. I would just watch any areas are "Layla's" areas, like her bed and maybe her favorite spot on the couch if she has one. Franklin and Maggie tend to get grumpy if dogs go near their stuff too so make sure toys and bully sticks are put away. Of course, Franklin and Maggie have gone many places with me and we used to go to the dog park every day so they are used to being around strange dogs. For the marking, you could get a diaper to put on Paris so even if she does mark, your carpets won't be ruined. You can buy disposable ones that work just like baby diapers at any pet store, and probably even Walmart. I would keep some enzyme cleaner (and maybe a blacklight) on hand incase she does start marking though! That way you can clean it up before the stain sets. I've used both Simple Solutions and (my favorite, because of the $) Petzyme and both seem to work as well as Nature's Miracle. |
