Sprayed by a Skunk! Yuck! I'm at my friends house and her Jack Russel Terrier got sprayed by a skunk! Her doggy shampoo is out, what can we bathe her in? Is it safe to do tomato sauce or vinegar? (I heard those get the smell off) Thanks. |
I have heard tomato juice works but never had to try it. |
dawn dish soap, peroxide, and baking soda. you need to wash them a few times with it, making sure you really concentrate on the direct hit area. unfortunately the smell sticks for a long time and you can smell it every time they get wet for a while. i'm not sure what part to what part you mix up the solution but this is what the bather i work with swears by. all those deskunk shampoos really don't work like they say they too. and tomato juice/paste whatever doesn't do much. edit: just found this -- 1 qt. of (fresh, unopened) 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda, and 1 to 2 tsp liquid dish soap or liquid hand soap in a medium sized bowl. |
tomato juice, sauce, ... tomato ANYTHING bathe them in it and leave it on for 3 minutes at minimum. Works WONDERS!!!! |
Oh my gosh! How horrible! I hope your friend is able to get the smell off fast, and I hope her terrier is okay! I was taking Addie out potty about a week ago and turned to look at the other side of the yard and saw a baby skunk. It scared me to death. I scooped Addie up, ran for the door (while the skunk watched me with its tail up) and stayed inside hoping it would go away, which it eventually did. |
Yea, the smell was terrible! Her house kinda burns your eyes when you walk in. I had to leave but I will text her and see if she got the smell of her baby, and recomend what you guys said. Thanks :D |
I grew up with dogs that had a habit of getting skunked. Downy works the best. Not only does it work on clothes, I promise it works on stinky doggies! We had a dog that got skunked more times than I could count so we finally left a bottle where we would wash her after. Use it like regular shampoo. Scrub it in and rinse out. Good luck!! |
