Can 2 males get along?
 
Hey Y'all! I am thinking of getting a Doberman and after searching on here I see the big and small can and do live together quite nicely. But can two male dogs live inside together nicely, if one of my female is not spayed? Will they fight? I'd hate for the two males to fight, it could be detrimental to the Doberman. LOL! ;)

All joke aside, what do yall think/know about two male living together when a female goes into heat? Breeders should know how to handle this. What would I do when that time came around. I want to breed this female.

If they are unneutered they'll most likely fight

Thank you! I was planning on neutering/or spaying the Doberman, I should have stated that. So I take it if the doberman is neutered than I wont have to worry about them fighting at least over the female.

All three of my boys get along great. Zeus (big dog) and Peppee are intact and we just got Brady fixed.

Thanks that is sooooo good to know. Now I need to find a good blooded Doberman. Meaning not aggressive toward dogs or people. :) We need something to warn away burglars. Seems these days you gotta have a scary dog. :eek:

Just because a male is neutered does not mean he won't react to a female in heat in the same household. We've even heard members report stories of their neutered males tying with their females when they were in heat.

Also, your intact male may still get aggressive with your Dobie. Intact males get very stressed when there is an intact female in close proximity. They often stop eating and have even been known to get aggressive with their humans during this time.

I have read many posts here about two neutered males fighting when a female is in heat.

Thanks!!!! Ladymom and everyone else!!! I didn't even think about my Yorkie starting the fight...see that is why I come here very good advise!!

OK so I should just go with a female then. Now that I have my first male I love them they want to please more than a ny female I have ever had in all my life!!!...that is why I wanted another male. but I guess not! sigh :(

Females fight as well! My females can be more aggressive than my males and not just towards females! The thing I would be concerned about is the size difference. It only takes one snap.
I am not saying that big and small pups cannot get along. Just be very careful.

ladyjane that is my biggest worry...one can never really know...but it is getting worse here year by year and well I think this is something we all need! a dog to help protect us. Thanks!

That would be my concern as well. I've seen a lot of posts from heartbroken members who have females who fight.

There is always a risk of fights when you have intact dogs in your home no matter what sex. I agree that the size difference is a real concern.

I am just so torn. :confused: I live on a highway and not a house in site! At this point I don't know which decision to will work! Maybe some one can suggest a safer dog for my little ones. but scary. I have watched a few videos of the dobermans with smaller dogs and babies...I dunno! I just need more faith!

I'd be a little concerned. I have two males and they (usually) get along fine, but they are both neutered and we don't have any females in the house, but even with one male neutered, he still has male "instincts" you know? And dobbies are a lot bigger than the yorkies. I'd kind of rethink a little bit.
