Princess one of my other furbabies (kitty) My Princess, a kitty, age 8 years, has been slowly losing weight, and has started vomiting her food. I thought maybe it was just hairballs. I took her to my vet last week. He said he felt a lump in her stomach area and he referred me to a different vet. We took her there and she has been thru a variety of different tests. First of all the vet said she has Pancreatitus (sp), blood in her urine, and elevated white blood cells. He took an ultra sound and blood work, sent them off to Iowa State University. Now we are waiting for the results. He thinks she my also have feline cancer. He wanted to know how we felt about chemo..... does/has anyone else delt with this? I did some research, and what I read does not sound good. |
I'm sorry. She's still very young So I hope they can do alot for her. Does she go out? You Said feline cancer, Do you mean Feline Leukemia? |
We rescued Princess when she was about 4-5 weeks old and has never been outside. She has been one great cat, doesn't even want to go outside, a big scardiy cat :) The vet said he thought it was Feline Lymphnoma. I am still not sure exactly what it all entails, just going to do what is best for her. |
I'm sorry to hear your Princess is sick. I can relate. I've never had any experince with the chemo. Thats what I would have done research. It is hard when you start reading up on the illnesses and the treatments. Hang in there, and I'm sure what ever happens and whatever you decide will be the right choice when dealing with her illness and recovery. Did you check online if there was any kind of forum you would be able to go onto to ask other cat owners who have had experience with the chemo? These days you can find about anything on the net, which is nice. I found a support group for cats with kidney failure. |
We just returned from our vet, (second opinion), she does indeed have Feline Lymphoma, they say she may have 2 weeks to 2 months to live, gave her meds to keep her comfortable and we are going to take things one day at a time and give her the best life we can give her. I think right now I am in alot of denial. Very sad. I have looked for some support groups, haven't found any yet. |
I am so sorry about your baby! God bless you! |
I'm sorry to hear about your Princess. My heart goes out to you. |
Sweet baby... my thoughts are with you. |
So far the medicine has stopped her vomiting. She is so frail, but fights taking the pill, so I have been crunching up the pill and mixing it with some chicken broth which she loves. Last night when I came home from work, she was Hiding from all of us, who knows where, but finially came out about 8ish, I was getting worried she may have been too weak to come out. I think the meds make her sleepy. Please keep her in your prayers while I try and make her comfortable. |
Update on Princess, the medicine seems to be working to make her comfortable, she even looks like she has put on some weight. I did find that she likes turkey/chicken with gravy baby food, and I can crunch up her pill and she doesn't even know she has taken it. Tricky I know but it is a safe and easy way to get her to take the meds without upsetting her. Please keep her in your prayers. |
It is with a heavy heart that I write this update. Today we had to put our sweet Princess down. She was so frail and sick. She was down to about 4 pounds from 15 pounds. We knew the time was right, but that doesn't help the sorrow I feel in my heart. I know she is now free from the cancer and is at the Rainbow Bridge with others that have gone before her. She was one amazing kitty and she will have a place in my heart forever. Martie |
