Dejavu!!!!!i"m so flipping mad!!!! Harley my 8 mo old Peekapoo was neutered Friday 3/27/09,less than 1 week ago. He had an undescended testicle, and therefore had 3 sepperat incisions. Two closed with sutures and one with staples. He was very sore and misserable for 2-3 days. On Sunday he started finally going up and down the stairs and lifting his leg to pee(so cute). I kept cheacking his wound and he wwas fine. Lastnight we wer doing yardwork, and the dogs were out side with us. I hear Harley let out a yelp, that did'nt sound right. I said to DH I bet he's constipated. My DH insisted that he will only take his antibiotic with cheese...NOT. His abdominal insides were hanging out!!!! I almost died. I called our vet (who lives right behind his office) Get his machine that instucts you to go to Kingston or Latham. Now Aiden my Yorkie was neutered by the same guy and he took his own staples out and had to go to Latham Emergency to have the area cleaned and re stapled. That was $178. Lastnight Harley had to be put under, opened up more,to make sure he was not contaminated. The op report stated hie internal sutures were loose nad were unraveled. $876.00 later he was re sewn up. The doctor sewed 3 sepperate layers of stitches. He has to put him on a broader spectrun antibiotic(on Doxy for Lyme) which is another thing...had Harley in his office for routine shots and he said there was no need to test him for lyme he has'nt been expose....WTF...I called the office this a.m. and the receptionist was like ..."oh we were just reading the OR report..how is he doing?WHAT...I told her I was not happy and I want a call. HELP ME!!!!!WHAT DO I WANT FROM THIS GUY???? I have had NO sleep and am verry emotional and reactive right now...What should I want from this vet??? Why can't he put the freaking dogs in a cone colar???? GETTING NEW VET!!!! |
Oh my, I have never heard of such a thing happening before. I hope Harley is doing better now. Is he in much pain? I am so sorry that you, DH, and Harley had to go through such a traumatic experience. |
Im so sorry about Harley. Poor baby to have to go through that.. I would be livid. You need to turn that Vet in. That is not right!! Your dog could of gotten seriously sick and died from something like that. He should also pay your emergency bill!! |
Honestly (and I don't mean this in a mean way, I mean it in the nicest way possible) I would've switched vets after what happened with your yorkie. One mistake made by any vet is enough to scare me out of going back. I hope your poor baby is doing okay. I read the part about his insides hanging out and I was horrified. Please, switch vets. Because... that's just a crazy and life threatening mistake to make. I also agree with the above poster. You should find out if you can take his butt to court or something. That just isn't a common mistake to make. |
You have every right to be angry. If you weren't home at the time your pup's life would have serioulsy been in danger. I would try and keep cool, tell the vet the story and ask for the funds to pay for the emergency surgery that was preformed on Harley. After all is was his sloppiness that caused this to happen in the first place. I would also tell him he could have picked up an infection and it's too soon to tell. You want this bill paid in full. Then find another vet! Good luck to your boy. I hope all goes well and he's fine in no time. That vet owes you, |
I agree with Carol It sounds like a Vet error from the guy that did the original surgery. He did not put adequate sutures inside your little guy. So, if there is any fault it lies with him. I would tell him that you do expect the cost relating to this repair to be handled at his expense. Vets will talk and he probably wont even be required to pay the other vet......it will be a write off probably between the two of them, but regardless...you should not have to incur this huge bill based on negligence...... If that does not work, well.......I would then seek advice from an attorney. Good luck |
OMG! Totally missed this thread. I would be furious if the vet didn't call back. Poor Harley. Gald that you got him taken care of. I would have to have a discussion with the vet and take a very serious look at getting a new one! |
