Severe Seborrhea on my German Shepherd's back Poor Ivan is having a horrible time with seborrhea on his back. As many of you know we moved and have had to get a new vet. This vet prescribed a different medicated shampoo for Ivan and said it was the same as what we were using. Well, judging from the condition of Ivan's back I'd say "NOT". I've been all over the Internet looking for a shampoo that will help this poor creature. Does anyone know of a good strong brand and where I can buy it? We were using Sebohex. Ivan also has severe hip dysplegia and is never out of pain although he tolerates it pretty well. I just hate seeing him so itchy as well! |
Have you tried giving him half a benedryl to ease the itching? My siberian husky had terrible skin problems (rashes). We tried all the shampoo's ..nothing helped. The only thing that did ease the itching a bit was the benedryl. My thoughts go out to you..i know this can be stressful...you just want your baby comfortable. I argued for years with my vet on how to treat his skin problems. |

Thanks for the suggestion. Our old vet didn't seem to think it would help since it is a metabolic issue. I think I might try it anyway. It couldn't hurt. Dufus is so big I can give him an adult dose! LOL |
You know, now that I think about it we havn't been able to feed Ivan anything with beef in it because it causes diarrhea. THAT has to be an allergy right? |
Ever checked out his reaction to grains or eggs? I have a Pommie who can't have grains or eggs. He gets horrible skin itches. Just a thought. |
He has never been allergy tested. He is doing pretty well on a salmon based dog food right now. This eruption is fairly recent as he has been doing ok for a while. I guess we ought to consider it though. Thanks. |
I'm just wondering..does he get this year round? Or just seasonal? |
He has it year round but it almost clears up in the warm months. |
