As long as the new pups come to see your Yorkies often, most breeds should be fine. If you don't want to worry about huge dogs stepping on the smaller ones, how about Maltese, Shih tzu, Pug, Norfolk, Cavalier or Westie.

What about a havanese? My MIL has one and he is great! Happy go lucky, carefree, and a bundle of fun energy.

How big does a Papillion get?

I think any two dogs can get along very well together if they grow up together.. But I would not trust a larger dog around any smaller one with out supervision. a larger dog can kill a smaller dog by just playing.

My little girls likes every dog she sees, but I myself would not leave her alone with a big dog!

The papillon standard is a height standard, not a weight standard. It calls for height at the withers to be between 8 to 12 inches, with anything between 11-12 being a fault but not a disqualification. Mine range from 8.25 inches to 11 inches, although I have kept a puppy I nicknamed the sasquatch that might beat 11 inches. Mine weigh between 4 and 8.5 lbs, with most falling in the 6.5-7.5 range. That said there are smaller paps and larger paps, I know of one pap, a very handsome dog too, that must have measured over 14 inches at the shoulder as he was required to jump 16 inches in AKC agility.

We show, train and breed papillons, they are wonderful little dogs. They are extremely smart and very trainable, that said, most need mental stimulation or you might wind up with a neurotic dog. Even if you don't want to do obedience or agility as a hobby, you are best off taking them to puppy and beginner obedience classes and/or teaching tricks, etc. They also are very energtic dogs and require exercise, although a vigorous game of fetch in the house can work on nasty weather days. And, they shed because they have fur on most of their body as opposed to a yorkie's hair. Some shed a lot, as in so much that you might think that a papillon exploded on your couch, car interior or work clothes : )

The papillons and the yorkie get along fine and they do play, some appreciate the yorkie's terrier-type play more than others do but we have not had any problems with the two breeds living together.

I have a Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix and a Yorkie and they get along great. The herding breeds are very protective and motherly. They seem to be so patient and good with other dogs and kids.

My Yorkie seems to get along with most any other dog. He plays with Shih Tzus, Yorkies, Border Collie mixes, and even a Cattle Dog mix. Some breeds do tend to be more aggressive, though. They should research as much as possible about the breed temperments of the breeds they're interested in and just make sure they are well socialized and taught obedience.

The most important thing is early socialization. Getting them around other dogs, people, and different situations once they are vaccinated is key!

A Havanese and maltese are great dogs
 

I'm looking after my mom's Havanese who's 8 mo, have a 10 mo maltese and 19 month Yorkie, they get along beautifully, they play constantly, the Havanese will make the others chase her around the house. If so fun watching them play. If I was to get another dog it would definitely be a Havanese. You should check it out.

We have a golden retriever named Gracie that is a little younger than Daisy. Although she is a super sweet dog, she doesn't realize how big she is. We are constantly watching them when they are together. I would suggest getting a little smaller one so you don't have to worry about them stepping and pouncing on them when they are playing.

We have a yellow lab puppy we added to our household of two yorkies. I think whichever breed you get it helps if they come in as puppies and are introduced to your older yorkies.

My 6 lb yorkie and 60 lb yellow lab are like two peas in a pod. They play together most of the day and it's so fun to watch. They really are like two sisters and the lab is really gentle with the smaller yorkie. In fact, 99% of the time I have to yell at the little yorkie to stop picking on her big "baby" sister!!

That Shelby Rose (my 6 lb yorkie) is a feisty one!

we had a dalmation that just LOVED Cricket. They used to wrestle and play pretty rough. but Dottie passed away a little over two years ago.

I have to do the same with Abby. She tries to pull Maggie's (shih-tzu) ears off.:eek:

I have Skye Terriers & Cairns along with my Yorkies.
They all get along great together, never had so much as a growl between them.
