Went to Walmart and came home with a pup It's cold here, and my friend and I went to Walmart to get her daughter a winter coat, been 50 all day and the temp is dropping. There's this lady {term I use loosely here} out front with a box. She was giving a way four week old jack russel puppies as her "stupid jack" decided to hook up with her other "stupid jack" and she only had one left. I took it. I know that was kinda of dumb but that poor pup needed someone. it's a tiny tiny girl and we're calling her Karma. For the lack of a better name. I quess my plans of having a maltese/or yorkie pup is on hold. As I try to fiqure what to do with her. I'm not extactly a high engery person and I'm abit worried for my cats. Again I could not allow that pup to get thrown into a shed or worse. will post pics as soon as they are delvoped. ty |

It was 4 weeks old?? Sounds like she was the stupid one..Every jack russell I've seen is very high strung until the day they die... |
Good for you! I would not have been able to resist either. Glad that poor little pup found you, but my god, 4 weeks old!? are they even weened at that age? poor thing!! |
Four weeks old to boot???? Oh my!! Good thing you went to Walmart. |

dogs don't contract congenital diseases from their owners. she probably thinks she's great b/c she wasn't charging for them. you're incredible for taking in this little girl -- she has a very fitting name :) |
I've had friends that have had these dogs and they are very trainable and loveable. I don't know how they are with cats either, but they swore by them. |
Yes Four weeks old. First thing I did in Walmart was grabb milk replacer and soft dog food, and a few baby fleece blankets. Currently Karma is in a box by my computer, fed and fat and warm and sound asleep. Currently sent a few emails out to local russel rescue, to see if they can help me place after she's older. Really sure we are not a fit for her. My whole family is couch potatoes and reading up on full jacks, we're not a good fit. Jack Russel Club of America has this test thing, where you see if you are a match, we failed all across the board. LOL ty {very comfortable with my thunder thighs. :D} |
I had a friend who bred Jack Russells....his rule of thumb...if you could stand them for 3 years...they were very good dogs. They are incredibly high strung....and hyper as puppies |

I think you did the right thing. Because he is so young, and didn't socialize much with other pups, espect him to bite (playfully) a little more than other puppies. Remember, all puppies have challenging behaviors, no matter the breed. Good luck |
You did the right thing even if you foster it till a 'rescue' finds it a home...Orrrrr, you could get attached, I heard that can happen! LOL |
ahhh poor baby all cold outside :( . I'm glad you got her, at least if you decide she's not right for you, you can find a good home for her with more time. Anybody could have gotten her and only God know what could have happened to her. At least she's safe now. Post pictures soon!!! |
I have a friend who raised cats and then bought a young Jack Russell. She is not someone who is a real high energy person either and at the time was driving out of town to get her master's degree. However, she walked her dog religiously and gave her a soccer ball for the back yard. She watched her carefully around her cats, and today, she is happy with Molly who is a good companion. It can be done. My friend had some good stories, but she is an animal lover and was not about to give up. What ever you decide to do, you are a good person for saving this little baby.;);) |
To funny i would of done the same thing not a fan of Jacks but wouldnt let it stay there.. I now live in Va but grew up im martinsburg wv.. left there when i was 42 and cant wait to get back there ... what part of W.va do you love in?? |
UPDATE Karma is now with VA Jack Russel Rescue. Her and her trunkload of things. {I'm a shopper for pups and kids.} and now a healthy 1 and a half. When Melanie drove up here, she was very suprised to find a pup with everything. LOL ty |
I do not care for Jack Russell, there crazy wild, they have springs on their feet, and they never quit going, we kept two for military people along with labs and a great dane, we still have one russell with us after 2yrs, and two labs. I tried to find her a new home but she kept coming back after the third home my husband said enough she staying here, the only good thing I have to say about her is she gets along very well with the yorkies. |

If you really don't want her you could contact a Jack Rescue org. |

That's a good thing for everyone. Thanks for helping her! |
She called her dogs stupid... yet she had two unaltered dogs together when the female was obviously in heat and expected them not to tie? Who's the stupid one, really? Seriously, though, it was a good thing you did for the pup. I probably would've took him, too. Even though lord knows I already have a houseful. So, I can't really blame you. Four weeks is a bit young, though... I'm not even sure puppies are fully weened at four weeks. They still "pretend nurse" at six. |
I'm so glad you saved her! I had a similar situation, when I rescued a pit puppy. My neighbors got this poor little girl for their young daughters. When the novelty wore off, the pup was put out in the shed. I finally was able to rescue her, even though I knew I couldn't keep her. She was with me for close to a month before a great guy with a local pit rescue was able to take her. I was adamant that, even though I couldn't provide her with a forever home, she would go somewhere where she was given a chance. I also feel like the people with the rescue would do a better job of weeding out the bad eggs. If this pup is not a good fit for you, then getting a rescue involved is probably the best choice. Let us know how it goes. |
I'm so glad you saved her, good for you! I remember a lady in my building had a Jack Russel and every time i saw her walk him he would always chase his tail, he would spin round, round, round, nonstop chasing his tail and jumped a lot! lol |
