Ferrets? Anyone have or had one? My 11 1/2 year old son is pushing for one and I know nothing about them, except what I learned on Kindergarden cop:p |
They are cute, fun, will use a litter box and no matter what, they stink, LOL! |
I had two different ones when growing up. The first was an Albino Ferret named Angel. Then years down the road I had another tan and black one named Kyle. They can make really fun pets. They are always on the move and love to steal stuff....especially shiny things. Then tend to "hide" everything in the same spots though, so as long as you learn where those are you will quickly be able to find your missing items. They are very comical and will keep you laughing for hours. As already mentioned, they do have a smell to them. With regular bathing, it isn't too bad, but they will always have a musty smell. Overall, I think that they make great pets. I would recommend getting one of the larger, multi-story cages so that they have plenty of room to run and play when they aren't out. I litter box trained both of mine, which made cleaning super easy both in and out of the cage. As with all pets, I would search out a breeder so that you know you are getting one that has had a lot of human contact and will want to be a part of the family. Good luck in your decision. |
They are so much fun and a very unique pet! We had 2 ferrets about 13 years ago. Definitely need to multi-level cage and a hammock to sleep in. If they are out you have to watch them like a hawk! When we were moving, we found so much stuff underneath our dresser!! They are little theives. :) Don't know if you remember the '80 something movie "Beast Master" the two ferrets were Podo and Odo (I think?) thats where I fell in love with ferrets. BUT the "fragrance" they put off was eventually too much. No matter how much you bathe them - they will have that musty odor. Anyway, nothing compares to my Yorkie Babies!! |

Thank you for all the advice but I just found out they are illegal on post so... I cant. For some reason they are illegal but a ball python isnt, go figure. On the good side as I was talking to my kids swim instructor about it she mentioned she had kittens. So Im now the proud owner of 2 kittys! Ill post pix tomorrow since they have already gone to bed with the kids. One of the cats is the runt and ALOT smaller than the other but they are very sweet and the ladty who had them was taking very good care of them. I hope they are as mature as she said litter and food wise but I know I wont have much problems with the dogs. Earlier I was sitting with all 5 anmials in my lap and no one minded.:thumbup: |
Congratulations on the kitties and look forward to seeing the pics. That's amazing ferrets aren't legal but snakes are - how much sense does that make?!?! Personally, I would feel much more comfortable with ferrets being around than I would any snake! A ferret never killed anything bigger than a mouse - if that! |
