Sammy's adventure ... it was ''peepee time'' for Sammy (94 pound mutt) and Caden. (we keep the back door and deck door open for 10 minutes for them to come in and out as they please) . they were both done and came inside. Sammy must have seen something, because he ran as fast as lightning out the deck door, ran down the stairs and me and my mom heard the fence rattle outside. we didnt think too much of it cause he chases squirrels frequently and bumps into the fence trying to catch them. so we expected him to run back in for water like he usually does. it was like 3 minutes and i had to go down into my dad's office to get a pen to do my homework. i saw something out of the corner of my eye on the front steps. i look out his office door (right next to the front door) and i see sammy SITTING THERE WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO OPEN THE FRONT DOOR ! i was shocked and in awe. i opened the office door, and he walked in so calmly, strolled up the 2 flights of stairs, and got a drink. meanwhile, im just following him like ''uhh ... what happened...?'' i told my mom, and we went into the backyard looking for the hole he got out of. (idk why we were looking for one, caden would have found it before sammy) my dad came to the conclusion that he HOPPED OUR FENCE! we've had him for 3.5 years, and he's never done that. idk what were going to do about it. since then, he hasnt tried to hop it at all thank god. any ideas what to do besides get a higher fence? thats out of the question because the side he hopped belongs to our neighbor  thanks everyone. oh and sorry its so long :p |
I can only imagine your surprise at seeing him at the front door and laughing at your description of him so calmly walking in for a drink :) Are you certain he jumped the fence and he couldn't open the gate? My son's boxer has learned to nudge the latch open on our gate. I don't know what to suggest about the fence, if it's not high enough.....we've never had a jumper. |
Sorry I don't know how to remedy it but your story reminded me of our last Yorkie. One day she got out a tiny hole in the fence onto next doors garden, walked down their driveway and out onto the street... she obviously decided she didn't want to be there and walked backwards and forewards in front of our house till I saw her out the bedroom window and let her in! lol |
