Boxer Boxer Boxer Boxer Boxer You can't go wrong with a: BOXER |
I know someone had posted it on the no list but we are considering a mastiff, my son wants a american bulldog really bad but for our area they're hard to come by. |

I do like Goldens, but I do want a guard dog, and there's one on either side of us in my moms neighborhood, neither of whom are good guard dogs. I don't really care for labs...I can't get over the chewing and I just don't care for their personalities. I have pretty much narrowed it down to those two breeds (GP or GSD), unless I see one that just absolutely jumps out at me. I'm talking to two excellent breeders of each breed, and I'm having so much trouble deciding between them. Either one will go to training classes as a puppy and obedience classes throughout the first year. I want a guard dog that will be gentle with the little ones. I'm living out in the country now and I need one that will appear threatening...lol Those were the two breeds that were recommended to me by several people as being able to get along with small dogs they are raised with and cats. I THINK I'm leaning more towards the GP at this point...:p Thank you for all your suggestions! :D |

As soon as I said they were ok she was fine. I am sure what ever you choose will be Great for you :) |

Since I'm not a big fan of dog hair in the house, I'd have to go with the standard poodle. If you want a more macho looking dog, my favorite is the Ridgeback. :D |

I'm used to hair...that doesn't bother me a bit |

This is a REALLy hard decision...Yorkies were an easy one, I ALWAYS wanted that breed...but I only had Basset Hounds growing up, and if you've ever been around one of them you KNOW how "great" of a guard dog they are...lol I'm just worried since I'm living out in the middle of nowhere. I don't want a vicious dog or anything, but I want one that will protect me and the babies if there was someone trying to break in or something. Of course, that could be any dog. Heck, the yorkies would certainly TRY to tear someone up if they came in the house...they have NO clue how much they weigh...;) |
I vote for a cockerspaniel. I have 2 and I live in the country. They always alert me to when someone or something is outside my house. |
I hope you reconsider on both of those breeds!! Boxer or an English Mastiff would be a better choice temperment wise.(and no major grooming!!) |
get a golden-doodle! or a labra-doodle.....they are adorable and curly furballs and dont shed! |
It's too bad you don't care for Labradores. Our two best dogs as far as temperament and obediance have been both a yellow & black Lab. And don't let their friendliness fool you, if you were ever threatened believe me they'd protect you. Not only does our black Lab Lucee have the perfect temperament but she is soooo gentle with Bella. Bella beats the heck out of her and she just takes it, It's amazing! Good luck with whichever breed you go with.:) (The only thing negative about a Lab is they shed like crazy!) |
I truly believe that the "big baby" all depends on the upbringing, just like the "little babies"... my lab was raised INSIDE my home, WITH small dogs. She has never chewed anything and NEVER pottied in my house(unlike the little ones) I find that she has a different personality than most labs because of the way she was raised. She is not wild like most of them and is very "BARKY" for a lab. No one can pull onto my property without her letting me know. I can promise you that it is because she was raised from a baby with the little "yappers" and no one would dare come in my house with that BARK! She is the sweetest thing with the little ones, and will even lay on the floor for them to climb on her and love her. She is very protective of them, and of us, but yet is the FUNNEST dog ever.... she SMILES all the time and we love her dearly.... If you get your "big baby", as a BABY, and let him grow up with the little ones, I think it really doesnt matter(of the breeds you are considering).... I LOVE the GP but Laci(Lab) loses so much hair, I would have problems with more hair than hers... haha... Good Luck! I hope you are happy with your choice of babies.... Training is the best way no matter what! d |
I voted for other! I would go w/either a Great Dane or a Doberman!!! |
