| Woogie Man | 04-11-2008 09:17 PM | I think so much depends on the personality of the shepherd. As in all breeds, some are more gentle natured than others. But any large dog has the potential to do serious damage to a Yorkie. We had a 10 year old shepherd/wolf hybrid when we got our first Yorkie but Toy was a Delta female and very tolerant so it wasn't a problem. Pagan, her father, was very sweet too and would let cats curl up around him for a nap. My brother raised Shepherds for years and I've seen some that were as gentle as my hybrids but also some a little more high-strung, especially the Alpha males. We lost Toy in 2006 and I've wanted a big dog myself now that she is gone but I'm afraid for my Yorkies if I get one. Also, another breed would place demands on my time that I just can't manage and do properly. I guess it's an individual decision but if you get one a female might in general be more tolerant than a male but I would think the puppy stage would be a challenge. Maybe a grown female that is non-agressive would be easier to fit in with your Yorkies. Good luck in your search. :aimeeyork :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :) |
