french mastiff? a girl that my boyfriend works with has a litter of frnech mastiff puppies. shes having trouble finding homes for all of them and he offered to take one if she cant find them all homes. now i dont currently live with my boyfriend... but eventually we are planning on moving in together. im not the biggest fan of mastiffs... mostly jsut because theyre kinda lazy, they drool, and theyre so darn big. and also im worried about pebbles and little man(my boyfriends yorkie) around such a big dog.... and also the fact that we have started breeding and there will be even smaller puppies running around. i always thought that when i got another dog other than a yorkie it would be something like a border collie or an australian shephard... a dog that would run with me everyday, play fetch, yet small and gentle enough to be able to still play with pebbles safely. i really cant have any say of wether he gets the dog or not seeing as how i dont yet live with him... but a part of me is really hoping he doesnt end up with one.... any advice? anyone have a mastiff? |
Well, I can say this. The Mastiff needs to be researched online before getting one...lazy isn't the first word that comes to my mind though:D . Oh, they are beautiful dogs! Being that you aren't living together yet, it is your boyfriend's decision. However, if you do end up living together, it may cause some unintentional injuries being that the Mastiff wasn't raised from a pup and up with the little ones around and that yours are already grown. It is a huge decision, like adopting a child to me. Your BF shouldn't get a pup just because someone can't seem to get rid of a litter. I'm sure the pups are tremendously tempting! I can't imagine why the breeder is having a problem at all. Let us know what happens. |
1 Attachment(s) I have an English Mastiff. I cannot speak for the Dogue De Bordeaux (french Mastiff) but, it depends on how the dog has been trained and raised. My Mastiff is very gentle and careful around my yorkies and poodles.... with that being said, this is not a decision that should be taken lightly. Research everything you can about the breed before you make a decision. Check out the breeder- why can't she sell the pups? health issues, temperment issues, conformation issues, etc.... Good luck in your decision! |

My Addison's best friend is an English Mastiff. His name is Fin and hes 140 lbs and still growing:eek:he is just a puppy so he is playful, but he does not have near the energy that the yorkies do. He is not my dog, he is a friends dog and we get together a few times a month at their ranch and the dogs go nuts together. Fin has never been aggressive to ANYONE, he is a huge baby. I think their temperment has to do with how they are raised. My only concern is that he will accidently pounce on my babies, they are never left alone unsupervised. The weight difference is scary! |

i just thought i'd give everyone an update! Matt (the boyfriend) has changed his mind... all it took was one look at pebbles puppies and he decided he would rather keep one than get his mastiff right now. :-) i knew he wouldnt be able to resist that little yorkie nose... |
Congratulations on your new puppies....I didn't know:D. I think as far as the French Mastiff goes, it was a wise decision at this point in time. ;) |
