Bunnies? We may be adopting a little girl bunny from a local shelter and I'm just curious if any of you have bunnies and can give me some advice about how they do w/dogs in general. We brought my little sisters tiny bunny over for a VERY supervised visit one on one with each of the dogs and all of them were very well behaved and Bent and Kenzie completely ignored the bunny all together. I guess I'm more worried about the bunny and it being stressed in a household with dogs. I was going to put her in a large dog kennel for a crate, so she'll have tons of space when she isn't having "outside" time, and of course she would have a wonderful, pampered life here. I just want to make sure I cover all my bases and get others input before I decide to bring her home -- the little dear doesn't need another home that won't work out, you know? But she is just precious and I'd be lucky to have her -- so any thoughts on this one? |
sorry i know NOTHING about bunnies but i think it is so sweet you want to give her a forever home! i hope it all works out and post pictures if you get her :) |
You could try training the bunnie to use a liter box, and it can wander around the house instead of being confined all the time. |
I was just saying to my husband the other day that we should get a bunny for a playmate for Kaba. It was all joking but thats funny you should post this. I know NOTHING about bunnys. I hope it works out. Good luck! |

I just am not sure if my dogs can ever be 100% trusted with a bunny w/o supervision. |
OHHH, we had indoor bunnies when we were young... they were litter trained and ran around the house with the pups... we had chi's then, and they all got along great! d |

I've had some experience w/them but not a ton, and never w/other animals. I hope it works out too, thank you so so much! |
I really don't know much about bunnies, I had one when I was little because it was abandonded in my front yard from the mommy, probably because I touched it, but I was little I didn't know any better! I would love to have one now, but Rocky would probably kill it, and I think I'm allergic to them. Let us know if you get her, and I want to see pics of her! |

They can be great pets!! I have know several people who hadbunnies- andthey litter box and leash trained them!:) |
We had a dwarf bunny for 13 yrs. that ruled when she was with the doggies. May she R.I.P. If one bugged her too much she would get on her hind legs and flail her front legs scaring them half to death. She'd even growl. It was interesting to me, though, that the dogs knew the difference between Babsie and wild bunnies. Wild bunnies always caused/cause an uproar.:D |
I think they would be fine under supervision. But I wouldn't leave them alone together. There is a bunny rescue I know of that won't adopt bunnies to anyone with a yorkie. and my mom has a bunny and I see why. Tucker just loves to chase the bunny around and nip at her. Well he only did that until we saw it and he hasn't been able to again. poor bunny :( |
My step sister has a bunny inside in a cage.. we went to visit.. Bailey lost his mind as soon as we walked in the door panting and running ON A HUNT..he found the cage and ran around it like a maniac.. barking bouncing off of it.. I had to pick him up in full attack mode and LEAVE.. so no pet bunnies at my house. |
4 Attachment(s) I had a dwarf bunny a couple months ago, we just rehomed her to a great home where she now has a bunny brother, but not because of the Yorkies. The Yorkies actually loved Blondie and got along with her really well! They thought she was another dog but weren't ever rough with her, they just sniffed her and wagged their tails and i would let her out in the house to hop around. You need to be careful what you feed her, like dogs they can be sensitive. I hope to get another one, one day, a little white one:) They are great, oh and she was already litter trained at 5 months old. Here's a few pics, London especially loved her |
Thank you all for the input! We have decided to wait at this point in time on the bunny. Emma seemed to really have a strange reaction when we did another visit w/my sisters bunny. She was panting and pacing after the bunny left -- like she was searching for it and her eyes were extremely wide and I just don't know if that's healthy for her at all. Plus, we really looked into the reality of how busy the furkids keep us and realized it just isn't a good time. Traveling is already hard enough because we bring the babies and it would just be unfair to add a bunny to our home without enough time to truly devote to it. Plus I had decided I'd adopt a friend for the bunny and there's just no way I can add two other living creatures to my home right now. So I really appreciate all the advice and I truly hope this little bunny girl gets a fabulous home soon! |
