Dear friend, Thinking of your Jesse. How are things, today? hugs, a |
Oh my, you could have been describing our 16 year old Blondie. In addition, she is completely blind now. Her kidneys are also in bad shape and she drinks and pees probably more than a gallon a day. She had a real bad spell and we thought we were losing her about 3 years ago. I even stayed home from work the day I brought her home from the vet thinking it was "the day". She is often lost, howls inconsolably unless you feed her. The only thing that brings her comfort is food and water (which both go right through her). We did have to restrict her access in the house, because she was beginning to not make it back to the litter box. I wonder the same thing - when do I make that decision??? But she doesn't seem to be in real pain. She still ocassionally likes to snuggle. I just ask her to please "tell me" when she's tired. Good luck and hugs!! |
Sheilagh, I am so very sorry for your pain. I went through the "Is it time yet, Doc" with my first yorkie Laciebug. She had a very rare brain disorder that was slowly taking her from me. She suffered from dementia, as well. Each time I took her to the vet I would ask, the fateful question, and each time, Doc would answer, "Cindy, Listen to Laciebug, she will tell you when it is time". Listen to your beloved Jesse will tell you when he is ready to go. I am keeping you in my heart and prayers during this difficult time. :hugs: |
Well, Jess is about the same. DH returned last night after a week in Botswana and he noticed her decline since he left:( I will take her to the vet as soon as he gets back. Till then she is gong to get all the love and attention I can possibly give her. She is on my lap again;) Sheilagh |
Here is another pic of her.. |
2 Attachment(s) Forgot to post pic:confused: 1.With Munchie 2. With Coffee, both taken last winter. Sheilagh |
You did say that she was eating, didn't you? Why is she becoming so skinny? The reason I'm asking is we had a beautiful black kitty that got very thin. Took him to the vet and vet said everything was fine. I knew there was something wrong. Finally, I looked into Kitty's eyes and I knew I had to PTS. He was begging to go. The vet did an autopsy and he was filled with cancer. I quit going to that vet. |
My heart and thoughts go out to you. It's never an easy decision to make, but only you know about her quality of life. The last paragraph was written for a dog...but.... http://www.geocities.com/animalupdates/DogsPlea.html And, my friend, when I am very old, and I no longer enjoy good heath, hearing and sight, do not make heroic efforts to keep me going. I am not having any fun. Please see that my trusting life is taken gently. I shall leave this earth knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate was always safest in your hands. |
Sheilagh, I am just now seeing this. It's so difficult to make a decision when your so attached to a pet. All I can tell you is you will know when it's time. I had to put down two pets and each one had it's own way of letting me know it was time. Keep in mind, when the time comes, that your making that decision out of the love you have for your pet. Hang in there and enjoy the time that remains. Hugs to you, |
Thinking of you and Jesse. hugs, a |
I am so sorry. You will know when the time comes. I had to make that decision in my senior year of high school for my 18 year old Siamese Cat. My prayers are with you. |
Jesse is sleeping on my lap, as usual. Coffee gets upset because she's always there lately. He paws on my leg and "talks". I will give him extra love when we go to bed.:) She seems the same, has not got any worse and has taken to sleeping in one of those pyramid beds I bought for her. Nice and cosy in this cold weather. She is still eating well, and does not seem to have any pain. She still demands treats from hubby when he is eating dinner, she has done this for years, so I guess that is a good sign. Our vet is back next week and I will def. take her in. Till then, I will keep an eye on her, I usually know when it's time for them to go, I had to put 3 doggies to sleep over the years, but I'm just not sure with her. Thank you all for your concern and prayers. It means a lot. Sheilagh |
Sheilagh, Sorry that you are going thru this. Sending prayers and hugs your way. |
Sheilagh, thank you for the update on Jesse. I am still keeping you all in my prayers. I know how difficult this time is for you but am thankful that she is peaceful. God bless you all. |
Thank you everyone for your thoughts. Our vet got back yesterday so I will take her in, in the next day or two. She hasn't been howling as much lately... but she is still very needy. I will let you know what he says. Sheilagh |
