Cat spay questions HELP!! Just picked Cleo up from the vet a few hours ago from her spay surgery. First off, they gave me the satellite dish with gauze tied around it to put around her head but she has such a little pin head her head slids right off. I then tried the onsie like some people on here have suggested before but she got out of that too! (Little escape artist). And she is starting to lick her wounds a bit. Any suggestions. I guess I will go out and buy her a collar tomorrow for the satellite dish. (She does not ever go outside so I have never bought on for her) Also, her eyes are very glazed over and she is squinting a lot. Especially the right eye. This is normal right? Right?! Is it okay to have her jump to high surfaces? The vet didnt really say and its hard to keep her from doing it? Will it hurt the incision? And its really tough with two animals to keep them from not playing together. I have kept the cat in the bedroom but felt so bad containing her when she already doesnt feel good so I brought her out and am just watching Kaba like a hawk so she doesnt play with her. I think once Cleo starts feeling better, its going to be very challenging. |
it will only take a few days for it to not bother her at all only reason they get a collar is to keep them from chewing at the stitches you could confine her in a crate possibly with shreded newspaper litter there are also sutures under the skin that hold the muscle & such back together squinting eyes she may have gotten water or something else in them |
I never had the satalite dish for my cats but the best thing I found was to put a sock sweater on them. Cut the toe off of a sock and cut out two arm holes, and two leg holes and modify it if you need to fit her tail and such. You'll need to change it everyday so that you can clean the area and such. I think surgery produces dry eyes, that is why Ellie's vet uses drops. So it could be that they are dry or that the vet used dropped and now they are runny? I think you'll have to get a collar for the e-collar. Licking the incision could cause infection. I personally wouldn't let her jump. |
I just lepy my Chynna in a coller for a week cause she wouldn't stop licking a scratch and she chapped her skin really bad! They have them at petsmart! And they are Sooooo comfy! and fir perfectly! no rigging needed, its the best design I have ever seen... well made, reusable and reasonable too! I'm buying on in Pixie's size and when the cats get here, two for them, you should always have e-collars on hand, you never know when you may need one! Hit up petsmart quick! That licking can cause irritation, and a surgery site is no place for an infection. |
I know it's difficult, but if you can, you need to keep her from jumping around too much. She could open the incision. My kitty licked her incision some too, but it didn't get infected. Just watch the incision for signs of swelling or redness. Hope she feels better soon! |
The crating idea sounds like a good one... she may not like it, but its not forever... how many of us like bedrest... well onece the novelty wears off that is! he he he I could use some bed rest right now! lol |
