I love Great Danes. Many years ago, when I had my first yorkie, we had friends who had one. My Muffin used to attack his feet and he just looked down at her and let her do whatever she wanted.:D Sheilagh |
When we were first married we used to have and breed danes. They are fabulous dogs. Gentle natured. We didnt have any small dogs at the time, but we did have small children. Out of 5 danes we owned only one was not good tempered. I think he was just abnormal. I would highly recommend obidiance though, only due to their size and streghth. |

other than that...he is healthy as an ox :D |
I'm 2 months late on this, but I wanted to say that our last dog was a 100% purebred rescued Great Dane. He was seriously the BEST dog I've ever owned. I don't think a better dog has ever existed. We got him at 2 years old & he'd already been in 4 homes. :( 140 lbs, but thought he was as big as my Yorkie & was as docile as newborn baby. He had such a HUGE heart. He loved to sit in our laps whenever we sat down. I loved him so much. The thing about Great Danes is that due to their size, they have such short life spans. Average life span is about 6 years. And you have to be so careful with them. Bloat is a very common killer of Danes, so you have to be so careful about feeding them & when you exercise them, etc. It's so hard to get so attached to an animal, only to have it pass after being in your life for only a little while. That's why, I swore after my Dane, I'd never get another large breed dog. It was much too painful saying goodbye to him. :( |
Bubba's big brother was a Dane.. 2 Attachment(s) Bubba's breeder had a dane and he loved the puppies. A picture is worth a thousand words. Here is Bubba 3 months ago, he is a min schnauzer. |
