Dog being put down tomorrow Hi everyone -- we have a old black lab, Paddy Dog, whom we are taking to the vet tomorrow to have her put down. She's partially blind, can't hear very well, doesn't have many teeth and has a tumor on her mouth. Well, we have three watch dogs, Paddy (lab/aussie shepherd rescue), Cleo (greyhound/lab rescue) and Cane, a pitbull (rescue) All of which are extremely friendly, but have scary barks. One day last week, Paddy and Cane were in the front fenced yard when the UPS man arrived up our drive way (OMG lets all freak out!) So Paddy and Cane started barking. Well, Paddy is very dominant over Cane and Cleo and so she thought it would be a good idea to snap at Cane because she wanted to bark at the UPS man by herself. She didn't need any help. She has few teeth and can't do any harm. So Cane, in self defense, started a dog fight. He tore off half of her mouth tumor, and got her on her neck pretty good. After they were done fighting, Paddy came back in the house and layed down. (No one saw the incident, but heard it - it didn't last long) We thought everyone was okay, until Cane came in and was covered in blood. So we went and checked Paddy and she was messed up pretty badly. So we got her cleaned up, but it was obvious she was in a state of shock and wouldn't really respond really. So now its been a week, she's still acting funny, and her neck has become infected. We love Paddy very much and hate to see her in so much discomfort, so we have decided to put her down. We've had her since she was a puppy and she's 13 years old. Isn't that like, 80 in dog years? We are going to miss her so very much. If you would, please say a prayer for her. She's visiting the vet tomorrow morning. Thanks everyone. |
Its always hard to make a decision like this. Good luck with everything. I'll keep you in my prayers tonight. 3 years ago I had to put down my cat which was 21 years old. I took it pretty bad but it had to be done. Hang in there. |
I'm sorry you're having to do this. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and Paddy. Sheilagh |

Sending our prayers. It is always so hard to make that decision, especially when death might not be on their doorstep. But you are right, you don\'t want him to suffer anymore than he has to. I hope his last night with you is a restful one. |
I\'m sorry you have to go through this. Nothing can really take away the pain inside when this happens. Just remember the wonderful chance at life you gave him by rescuing him. Bless you for doing that. Take care |
I am sorry you are having to go through this..I have a Lab who is 9 years old and she is having hard times getting around..just not as active and I dread having to make a decision about her health one day. |
I am so very sorry for your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. |
I am soo sorry, You all will be in my prayers. I know what a hard decision that is to make but you know what\'s best for him. |
I\'m having a difficult time seeing the letters I type. I am so sorry you have to do this. It must be so hard.. My thoughts and prayers go out to Paddy and your family |

the poor dog |
Poor baby. It\'s always hard to make that decision. I pray that when my 11 year old collie goes, she just goes quietly in her sleep. As hard as it is, I would rather that than having to make the decision you are making even though I think you are doing the right and humane thing. :( |
I am so sorry you have to make a decision like this. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family and Paddy :( |
