Does anyone own a Poodle? Does anyone own a Poodle? Furgie would like a sister a playmate. She is lonesome I think. She really loves playing with Rufus, you should see how sse beems. Sadly he is an outside dog and I rarely let him in or her outside. So we are looking at maybe a poodle. We don't know yet which breed. Or maybe a Shih Tzu. They are not as expense as buying a Yorkie. I even thought about a toy Chihuahua. :shurg: So I guess what I'm asking is what are the pro and cons of owning a poodle? or any suggestions...hey what about the Papillon? anyone have experience with theses? Or should I get another Yorkie cause that is better for her. |

I have a Poodle and a Chi/Pom Mix. They love Sam and Sam loves them! The Poodle and Chi/Pom Mix are actually my Mom's but she lives with me sooooooo they all just love each other. I have had Poodles before as well and love them. No shedding! Martin is a smart lil toot. He learned "Bang Bang" from just watching Sam! Personally my next one will be a Yorkie! But I love the Poodle! Martin is a white one by the way. |

Is Sam difficult to bath meaning how much work goes into just bathing and drying? I heard they are rel smart! |

I have 3 Toy Poodles along with my 2 Yorkies and a Mastiff. The poodles are by far the smartest dogs I have ever had. Grooming is about the same maintenance as the Yorkies- grooming every 2-4 months, and brushings a few times a week, bath as needed-usually less than once a week. |

Sam is my Yorkie. Martin is my poodle. I keep Martin in a summer shave, even in the winter. So bathing and drying isnt a big problem for us. All the boys go to the groomers every 6wks, even the Chihuahua Mix. Martin is not that bad in the tub. He doesnt care so much for the hair dryer but will let you dry him. |

1 Attachment(s) I have a Standard Poodle, Cassie as well as Teddi, my yorkie. The absolutely LOVE each other! I was actually trying to get a tiny poodle that was the same color as my standard before I got a yorkie. I tried for about a year and couldn't find one that I liked so then I moved on to a yorkie....it still took me about a year to find one of those I liked too! I would never try to groom a poodle...with the curls it is so hard...it is even hard to find a groomer who does a good job. Sometimes it looks good and then they shake and it looks bad. Here is the Christmas pictures of both of my girls! |

Thanks everyone for your replies. I thought the curles might be tought to comb through. We are just thinking right now. Ronda I like Cassies color. That is just what I want. I went to a breeders yesterday....and they had a little male a little bit darker than Cassie. |

Poodle  I vote for the poodle! I have a poodle story for you... First, let me set this up... The night that I got my poodle puppy a tornado hit our house, which is why we all decided to name her "Windy". Windy is black toy poodle, and she was 2 years old when we got our yorkie, Ted. Windy loved Ted from the start. My dad died and my mom was lonely, funny thing is that it seemed as if Windy could somehow sense that Mom needed her. Since my mom had already bonded with Windy and it was very mutual, she asked if she could take Windy home with her for a few weeks, for the company. After a few weeks we went for a visit, and to get Windy (Mom lives 3 hrs away). Mom cried over the thought of Windy leaving. So that's when DH, the kids, and I all decided that letting Mom keep Windy would be for the best. Also, Windy keeps my mom more active because she LOVES to go for walks, and of course, Mom LOVES to indulge her! I miss her, but I know where she is, and they are both so happy together, plus they come to visit very frequently, usually for a week at a time. Windy loves all 3 of our yorkies, and they all have a blast playing with her. I must say without hesitation that Windy is one of the smartest dogs I've ever seen or had. Also, poodles have a very sweet disposition, cute personalities, and even better, they are incredibly easy to house train! If you keep her cut short, her coat will be very easy to maintain. Good luck making your decision, and let us know what you decide!!! |

Bianca is a lot to bathe and dry and groom. Being 3/4 bichon and 1/4 poodle its a lot of work...but I love it. |

Wow Kriston that makes me want to run right now and get him. What an awesome story...but...well it is the male thingy why, I hesitate. I never had a male inside. I heard they are more out to cuddle than females. LOL I love Furgie so much I want a sister/brother for her. My schnauzers loved people more than other dogs but Furgie seems to need a dog more than she needs people. She seems so much happier. Still thinking! |

I have a yorkie poo who looks mostly like a poodle and he's the smartest dog ever. He picked up commands almost instantly and has a prance when he walks, such a sweetheart! I'd love a standard poodle someday |
