Any other birdy lovers? I am the proud mom of a handle full of animals, my yorkies taking the top spot in my heart but they aren't alone. I completely love my little Daphne. She is a 7 month old cockatiel. I don't know about anyone else but Lexie and Beau LOVE LOVE LOVE to eat her bird seed that she throws out of her dish. Does anyone else have this problem? Also, Daphne hunts them. It is HYSTERICAL!! When the dogs are walking around and under her cage eating the left over food, she walks around the bottom and follows them around with her beak open, like she is ready to attack. Its sooo funny! She also has her heart set to attack Beau, and he is totally afraid of her. She will fly down by him and start chasing him and Beau will run full speed away. It is enough to make anyone laugh. |
4 Attachment(s) My dogs love the seed that Merlin my 11month old Umbrella Cockatoo throws out of his cage. We love Merlin so much. He is just like having a two year old around all the time. He loves to scream and chew the wood finishes up in my house. He has "eaten" a dinning room chair, numerous couch pillows, the window blinds in the den, the wood window sill in his room, and so much more. I wouldn't trade him for anything in the world though. (Maybe just a day of quite once in a while. LOL!) |
Beautiful bird.My sister raises Canarys and a bunch of other small birds.I used to raise parakeets. Have not had birds for years though and do miss the chatter. |
My friends bird taunts the dogs. The dogs are outside and the bird will call the dogs name "Angel!!!" and the dogs get all stirred up. In response he will go "Hahahaha suckers!" |

Do geese, ducks & hens count? :) |
2 Attachment(s) When I saw this thread I just had to post, I am also a bird lover along with the yorkies;) Here's our macaw, Bristol, he's 12 yrs. old and has lived with us for most of that time. That's my daughter Megan with him, he loves it when she comes to visit:) and screams until she holds him. He also has done his share of damage to woodwork and such, but we still love him. Our dogs love to hang out under his playstand as he drops all kinds of good foods, that they aren't allowed normally to eat:D We also have African Greys that sound just like the dogs at times, people even ask if it's the birds or a dog, they are fun. Altogether we have 10 birds, and they all get along with the dogs for the most part, it's a zoo around here:) |
Ha ha ha. I have a mini zoo of my own too. A black bear hamster, more fish than I can count, Beau, Lexie, and Daphne (the bird). Occasionally we will have my boyfriend bring over his border collie. We joke saying we should charge admission to come inside. Ha ha. |
I had a cockatiel a long time ago. I would love to get another bird someday. I've always had a thing for African Greys. I worry because up in North Florida there aren't many bird specialists (to my knowledge) ... whereas in S. FL there were. |
That is so cute! I love birds too, Cockatiels and parrots. I like that they talk and are very smart. We have 2 cockatiels but only one is sweet. I used to have one growing up that was extremely smart. My mom bought me a rabbit once for easter when i was 7 and he would go down to his cage and bite his ears cause he was jealous. He also followed me everywhere and never flew away and tried to protect me. He was like a dog, i miss him so much |
1 Attachment(s) Here's my wife with our green-wing macaw, Rosebud. We've had her since she was 3, which makes her about 15, 16? Sheesh, I can' keep track. She's part of the family. |

http://www.mytoos.com/ I loved my birds more than anything in the entire world and I just want to make sure that people know what they're getting into before they get a cockatoo. There's so many sad (honestly, sadder than the given-up Yorkie stories....birds are MUCH harder to find homes for if it doesn't work out) and horrific stories. Parrots are so intelligent and they are therefore, very demanding of your time and patience. If you don't have a lot of your day on a regular basis to devote to a cocktoo, consider a different type of parrot. If you want any information or anything please feel free to PM me. My cockatoos were my LIFE. It's also extremely difficult to find qualified petsitters if you think you might ever want to go somewhere for more than a day. |
