Bichon itchy skin-anything work? I posted a sort of similar question on the health and diet forum...But was wondering if anyone here has or has had a Bichon Frise with really itchy skin/allergies? We have been trying to go RAW with NO luck, (however Cooper my yorkie LOVES the NV medallions) so since the Bichon will NOT eat the medallions and am sooooo tired of trying to keep their food separate. I have switched to NV instinct which is grain free and seems to maybe have helped a little.....anyway just curious if anyone else has ever found something that works wonders for the Bichon breeds itchy skin?:thumbs up  |
I HAVE A BICHON! :) Yay another bichon owner here! :) Bianca is very itchy. My vet told me to give her a 1/2 tab Benadryl and it works great. Also I switched her food to Wellness and shes SO much better! I love to talk to other Bichon Mommies too!! :) |
Is it all over her skin or forming into a hot spot? |
i don't have a Bichon but Layla had horrible allergies.. well still does... but we've just started to go chicken and grain free and she has really improved... her eyes still water from time to time but she doesn't not chew on her paws NEARLY as much... so you might want to try cutting out chicken too.. i know it can be a "popular" allergy. |
yes Bianca was chewing at her paws terribly! Even biting her nails and making them sharp as razors....the wellness has helped and so has the benadryl. I dont give the benadryl as much as i used to, but on really itchy paw days it works. |
Thanks guys for the info! The Bendryl did not do much for us but maybe I did not give it long enough to work. We tried the predisone shot at the end of the summer because it got soooooo bad and will NEVER EVER do that again. Scared me to death, I thought his Kidney's were going to shut down. He is itch all over not hot spots, and our groomer wants us to try Bee Pollen starting in Feb. She swears by it. Our Bichon has food allergy's AND is very allergic to grass. He never goes out without clothes on....they protect his belly from the grass and really helps. Thanks about the chicken the NV instinct we have been eating is the chicken one, did not realize that could be an allergy culprit. I swear it sounds horrible but I did not put nearly the research or energy in what food I chose for my kids when they were babies......I feel soooooo sorry for my bichon (lick, slurp, scratch) I would try anything for him! |
Poor lil guy. How old is he? The grass allergy is bad..how sad for a doggie to not be able to be in grass. HUGS to your baby! |

He was 3 years old in November. You know how most dogs think they are your babies, or they think you are their mommy?.....well not Frasier I SWEAR he thinks he is my boyfriend....it is soooo funny. He can not stand anyone taking my love or attention he pouts!!! and watch's over me ever where I go. My husband thinks that Frasier thinks of ways he wants to knock him off so he has my love all to himself...LOL I know I am nuts but his love for me is soooo different than any other animal I have ever had. Cooper my yorkie is my total baby, and my little boy, but Fraiser is my doggie soul mate. |
