need MORE cat help! ok so i came home today from school and noticed that our newly aquired cat has to bald spots on his body now.... were NOT there yesterday... but his hair may have been thinning there.... but not enough that i took notice... again... large fat cat... on a horrible cat food. Could it be stress.... my grandma used to be home all the time... no one is home during the day for him... plus i'm changing his food to Wellness... could either of those things be it?? I think he drinks an abnormal amount but my grandma says he has always been a really big drinker (i know most cats dont' drink much but i read that some do and i know someone on here said their cat drinks like crazy too so i'm not that worried about it) so can anyone help with the hair loss? |
Most likely, it is due to stress. But it could also be a medical problem. This website has a list of problems that have hair loss as a symptom, the most common are allergies, stress, and hyperthyroidism - although I doubt it's hyperthyroidism since he's overweight. Most likely stress http://www.peteducation.com/article....&articleid=195 |
Where are the bald spots? Cats will sometimes lick one spot bald when they are stressed just like a dog with a hot spot. Drinking huge amounts of water is not normal. Cats can be transient diabetics (it comes and goes). You should mention this to your grandmother and have her get him checked just to be safe. |
I would take kitty to the vet to rule out a fungal infection or flea bite dermatitis, both of which afflicted one of my cats. Both are treatable. |
