Fatal error (computer) what does it mean?
 
I'm trying to do a search but I keep getting this message: Can anyone tell me what it means?

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 20971520 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 1024 bytes) in /home/yorkietalk/domains/yorkietalk.com/public_html/forums/search.php on line 870

I have no idea, but whenever I get one I turn my computer off for a little while, and then start it up again. The message is usually gone.

Well, that didn't work. I'm on a different computer now and I get the same thing.

I wish I could help, but when it comes to computer problems, I have to ask my son everything....:confuse2:

I remember when we got our first computer, probably about 15 years ago....I was playing around and then this message come on the screen...

"You have completed an illegal activity"...then it shut off :eek:

I actually sat frozen in my chair, my heart racing, waiting to hear police sirens stop in front of my house for me, no kidding....I r so stoopid..:rolleyes:

That is so funny. I know that gut sinking feeling though. You don't know what kind of problem you've run into and sometimes you think you have killed the whole machine too. I never feared being arrested though!! LOL
I think I found my answer though. I was searching the whole site when I should have been searching specific areas. There just wasn't enough memory to go through everything. I have since successfully done my search. Thanks!

Yeah the first time I saw the fatal error message I thought I'd blown the computer up.

Do you keep your computer cleaned up? disk clean-up, defrag, etc?
Have not had that error in a long time but if you shut-down and re-start that might help. If I have problems that I can't fix I go to www.ask.com
for the answer.
