IP address ~ how to find the sender's #
 
Does anyone know how to find a sender's IP number? I have the link to look it up, but I can't for the life of me remember where to look to get the number.....

Actually, it's quite simple. When you have the individual email open, select to view the "Long header" in your tool bar. It will show the original IP address of the sender. Here is an example of what a long header looks like in the address portion:

From: invite+ooza4a26@facebookmail.com
Subject: Check out my Facebook profile
Date: October 23, 2007 8:46:37 AM PDT
To: abcd@yahoo.com
Reply-To: abcd@gmail.com

Where does it say Long Header at? I know you said in the tool bar, but where at? lol.

It depends on the type of computer - Mac or PC, and also the Application you use, such as Microsoft Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird..... to name a few. But in most of them, when you are viewing the individual email, on the Toolbar, there will be a "view" option, and within that drop down menu, there should be the option to view "long headers". I am using a Mac. This is what the toolbar looks like when I use the above option:

See the "long headers" in that drop down menu, to the right? Let me know if you need further explanation. Remember, on a PC, it will look different, but will be available in a similar way.

Isn't the web just great? Computers..... gotta luv'em, especially my Mac:).... just soooo simple to use.

You're a doll Lauren, thanks! Erin helped me this AM, I never knew it was so easy! Before I went to page source and found it there, but the format was changed, so I was stuck! The only small problem I had was finding the correct IP as the server's IP was also listed......
