Tip: Make Your Pumpkin Last! #1. Disinfect it! Wipe it with a solution of 1 cup chlorine bleach to 2 quarts water to eliminate mold and bacteria that cause decay. #2. Oil it! Rub cut surfaces with vegetable oil to keep moisture in. #3. Scent it! Sprinkle cinnamon - a natural antiseptic - inside to prevent mold. #4. Spice it! Shake in some hot pepper to keep critters from feasting on your decor! #5. Shade it! Shield your pumpkin from direct sun to delay decay. #6. Soak it! Plump it up if it shrivels by immersing in a pot of cold water for an hour! #7. Light it! Use a battery-operated candle instead of a candle with flame. The heat will shrivel your pumpkin and cause it to rot faster. :jacko: :jacko: :jacko: :jacko: :jacko: :jacko: |

Great tips! |
Great tips, but one question......do we need to do ALL these to our pumpkin? (I am blonde!! lol) :animal-pa |
Ha! :sidesplt: I don't know.....to be honest...I never did any of those before. I haven't even gotten my pumpkins yet....so when I do I will see how many of them I actually do. I think I will definitely do the oil on the cut parts and the cinnamon, as I can actually see those really helping! Oh...and the battery powered small candle light...I just bought two of those at a craft fair and seen that Oriental Trading Company had them too (really cheap). They are just safe and they look like the real thing! AND my porch is shady...it is an 8 foot wide covered porch, so they will be out of the sun. |

Well, the list I got it from was a "snip and save" list to have handy...so I am assuming that it is "recommended" to do it all. BUT, I doubt if I do them all..... |
EXCELLENT! Thanks for posting this! We haven't carved our pumpkin yet (dreading when we do) but I'll keep this list in mind! |
