Tom Cruise/Brooke Shields debate I'm not posting this thread to start a controversy, but I'm curious to see what people think. Tom Cruise recently degraded Brooke Shields for using medication to treat her severe post-partum depression. First of all, his kids are adopted....he's had no personal experience with this issue. Secondly, why would he even open his mouth? He made statements about her with no provocation. Coming from a family that has had some depressive issues, I guess I'm just a little irritated by his ignorance and insensitivity. It's fine if he doesn't agree with her choice, but why say horrible things about her choice when it has nothing to do with him? Any thoughts? |
Hey I dont like tom cruise because I think he is arragont. He thinks he knows everyhting. I was just talking to my husband today about this. I have to take medication for adhd and I told my husband that it ticks me off that tom cruise doesnt belive people should take medication for chemical imbalances(sp?)I would like him to come to my house and see how much work I can accomplish without medication!!! I HATE people who have strong opinions against something they either dont suffer from and cant possibly understand. What a jerk! DO you know how many people with depression would probobly commit suicide or be all alone ifit were not for medication? I dont knwo the extent to what Tom Cruise said but I have heard how he feels on these issues and it makes me mad. But if I got my info wrong, correct me. |
You're right on with your info. He is arrogant, and ignorant it would appear. He and Matt Lauer got into it the other day about the Brooke Shields comments. He kept telling Lauer that he's read all the papers and studies on mental illnesses and that Lauer and Shields haven't. Cruise said that he knew about this stuff and they didn't. So, Lauer asked him a simple question pertaining to mental illness, and Cruise couldn't answer it--he just got mad and flustered. There have been a couple of good articles on Yahoo. What will happen if Katie Holmes gets pregnant with his child and suffers from PPD? That would be interesting. |
My poor mother in law has it bad. She had an unexpected child 6 years ago and suffers from ppd ever since. SHe actually pulls out her hair. The sad thing she is a owner of a hair salon and she is 42 years old with random bald patches all over her head. Not what you expect from a hair stylist. But anyways the only thing that helps her is medication. If she didnt get medicated she would be completely bald and divorced because she was having marital problems due to the ppd. Tom Cruise could use some medication at this point in his life- he has gone mad!(in my opinion) :) |

IMO, with the way he's been acting lately, Tom Cruise has been forgetting to take his meds!! |
i thougt he was soooo wrong in making that staement towards brooke shields. I personally think he's an idiot. He really needs to to keep his mouth shut when it comes to making statements about medical treatment. I can totally sympathize with brooke shields and Im glad she spoke publicly about her depression. Hopefully it helped other women realize it is a medical problem and there is help for it. |
This is the exact reason why I decided I hate Tom Cruise. I used to manage a mental health office where one of the doctor's sees only women with issues such as PPD, she practices very holistic ideas when possible. Herbs can occasionally work, but for the most part it is a hormone imbalance that can not be corrected without medical intrevention. I have seen some VERY sad things. How dare him presume to know anything about the matter FOR THE ONLY REASON BEING THAT HE IS A SCIENTOLOGIST!! I read the article calling him DR. Tom. He is just so full of crap, and stringing that poor girl along with him. I hope she never has children with him! |
Tom Cruise is a major idiot. Did you hear what he said to Matt Lauer? I was thinking "I KNOW YOU JUST DID NOT TALK TO MY MAN THAT WAY!" Ugh. I was on anti-anxiety meds for a few months last year and they helped tremendously. |
I have been digusted with Tom Cruise lately. I don't think he has any right to judge anyone for what they do. When he has a baby and goes through the postpartum stuff he can decide if he wants to take medication or not. He has NO RIGHT to judge Brooke Sheilds. I think it is great that she had the courage to come out and talk about what she went through, I think there are so many women out there that related to her and realized that they could get help. Shame on him for trying to belittle and degrade her when she is helping so many women. Also, I read that Tom Cruise has recently bragged that he had helped a young boy with "severe ADHD by giving him Flinstone vitamins". (*ahem*--yeah right). My husband had(s) ADHD and it was hard for him growing up. He is very mature about it, and he'll be the first to tell you a Flinstone vitamin, would not have helped him get through school easier. I feel so bad for Katie Holms, it looks like she is already being contolled by him. I really liked her in Dawsons Creek. :p |
My whole life I've suffered from dysthymia (a mild, low-grade depression), and gone through a couple severe bouts of depression. I was only diagnosed last year when I finally decided to get help. My counselor is wonderful! When she first asked me to think about trying a medication, I was very hesitant because of the stigma attached. I've been on a very low-grade antidepressant for a year now, and it's completely changed my life. Definitely the best decision I've ever made. It's my hope for people to realize that there is help out there, and they don't have to live in a world of sadness, or always feeling down. It's a medical condition, like diabetes or high blood pressure--and it can be treated successfully. Most people who argue against it being a medical condition have never experienced the absolute despair and helplessness depression brings. People like Tom Cruise frustrate me. There are people out there who idolize him and won't get the help they need because he runs his mouth about something of which he knows nothing, or has incorrect information, about. |
tom cruise thinks he's the sh**t right now and he's NOT!he's a freakin wacko!i mean i felt bad when that guy squirted water in his face but after that interview with matt lowder ,whatever! i feel that he thinks that he's the hottest man alive. i beilieve that him getting married to katie is just his way to try and bring publicity to himself and her. i mean who the hell cared about katie before this? nobody. i also beilieve that with this engagment he's trying to say "look i can still get hot chick , me tom cruise i rule jungle". he just makes me sick baaarrffff  |
I used to love Tom, but I can't figure out what is going on with him. If he wasn't so against meds I swear he was on something! Of course, there are those certain "herbs" out there he could be using! lol He should thank God that he never has needed medication. For those that do, well, who is he to say what is right or wrong? I have MS and I take tons of medication. I wouldn't be able to walk without it. He needs to stick to acting. Why do celebrities feel that we CARE about their opinion just because they are famous? He is making a fool of himself. I heard he fired his PR person and now his sister is doing it. Ha! You get what you pay for. |
