Yep...unfortunately, already had my fight with it. I had aortic valve replacement in May, followed by three months of fighting MRSA (very resistent staph) in the incision. Can't say positively that it was contracted in the hospital; though I feel pretty sure it was - since I seemed to live between home and the hospital for three months. I kept thinking it would be best to just stay in the hospital, and get the thing killed. But, one of the team surgeons told me that "there are so many mega strains IN the hostpital (because they've killed all the little ones), they try and get their people out and back home asap". MRSA is everywhere, now; and, we have such weak immune systems from sedentary, unhealthy living - there is cause for concern.

I'm soo sorry to hear that. We got to talking about it in my Elem School Science class today, and I was like holy cow! There is nothing they can do about it is my understanding. I haven't had time to do much research about it yet though. I'm glad your ok, thats terrible.

A girl next to me had her son sent home from daycare with hand foot and mouth disease or whatever.... She could be contagious and didn't tell me until today, she's known for a week. I was pissed!

That also happened to my husband (R.I.P) ... the hospital has more germs than your home.

The middle school next to my high school had an outbreak of it about a month ago. Its litteraly right next door, so they were worried that the wrestlers were going to spread it over to our school, but it never came over. I don't know much about it, but one of my friends had it and it sounds awful.

someone at work had it and he came in... they sent him home and told him to not come back til it cleared up!

I will be! I do my student teaching in the fall. I can't wait to be done. It's so exciting that this is my last semester. I can't help it! I've been around the school my whole life!! My dad is a principal/coach/athletic director and my mom works in the library, my brother teaches math/coaches, and too many other family members are teachers to count. After 23 years now everyone at the school is like family.

Yes, I teach 5th grade. I love it. Children are so pure. Well, most of them.
There are a few that have been tainted by life and their family environment.
But basically, they all respond to love.
I teach in a NYC school but in the suburbs (what I mean is, not in the inner city).

Most of my children are from varied countries and are still learning the American ways. And they all try so hard.

The only downside to teaching is being around kids when they are sick.
Yes, I use all my sick days and then some.
Upper respiratory illness flies around the room and some kids come in with fever and all.

Economics force the parents to send children to school ill because no one can stay home with them. It is sad.
But kudos to you. You love children and it appears that you will be a great teacher. It is in your blood.

My daughter is in graduate school for her MA in education now. She is loving it.
It is extremely rewarding (as I am sure you already know from your family).

Well. Great to hear of another teacher! 5th grade is so much fun. I've done alot of substitute teaching in K-12, but I've never really had a early childhood clinical or pre-lab. So I thought I'd be brave and as my preferences for student teaching i put kindergarten as my first... After that I thought oh no what have I done. LOL. It'll be great though. I love all ages of kids. They're all great.

How long have you taught?

To be honest with you, my first year of teaching actually scares me to death. My fiance (he is a physical ed major, minor in gen science) thinks I'll just walk into my classroom with lesson plans already made, papers already copied, etc... I keep telling him you have NO idea! But he's convinced. So he'll see. My hope is once student teaching is over, it won't be as bad. I hope! :rolleyes:

Oh. And. Later on down the road you may wish you didn't offer me help... :D

The funeral for my husband's best friend is tomorrow. He died from MRSA that got into this blood. He was a completely healthy 65 year old man with no chronic illnesses at all. A couple of weeks ago, he thought he had the flu, but he got sicker and sicker. By the time he went into the hospital, he had MRSA in his blood stream. It attacked his heart and lungs. His heart was extremely damaged by the MRSA and it formed a blood clot that went to his brain and he had a huge stroke. He never regained consciousness and they took him off life support a couple of days ago.

My husband is heartbroken and we are all shocked that this could happen out of the blue to a perfectly healthy man. They have no idea how he contracted it. It is very scarey.

I'm so sorry to hear that. It scared me to death when I initially heard about it. I didn't know much about it, so after class I researched it. It scares me that they don't know how he contracted it. I'll have your family/friends in my thoughts and prayers. That is horrible! :hands:
