Anyone know about antique sewing machines? My mom has one... Its the on that is like a little table and then you open it up into a sewing machine.. Not sure about dates or anything but my mom is getting a little ebay happy and whats to sell it now.. LOL.. Shes not even getting the money shes giving to me! Anyways I looked on ebay and found similar ones for only 100 and under.. My mom says we should go through an anitque place.. Does anyone know how much I can get? |
I don't think they are all that rare since sewing was quite a common thing to do, and the machines were built to last. We have one similar to the one you are describing and when I researched they weren't worth as much as I was hoping. It probably wouldn't hurt to talk to an antiques dealer just in case its a rare model and could fetch more. I would think since it is such a heavy item listing it on craigslist, or in the newspaper might be a better choice as far as selling it. |
A few years back I picked one up at a garage sale that was beautiful, it even had the original accessories tin box in the drawer and I only paid $30 for it....since then I have seen more of them at sales for similar amounts..... I just have it for decor in my bath..... |
Can you post some pics of it? |

do a search on ebay and see what similar ones are going for. You can run a search to include completed listings; that way, you can see what they sold for at the end. |
While it may look old, it is probably only like from the 60's time frame. The only ones that are really worth a lot of money (from what I have seen) are the old, non electric machines, and the more heavy duty ones. |

hmmm... Maybe talk to a sewing machine broker then? |
I think you might get a little less at an antique store, because they need to be able to mark it up. I'd say 80-100 depending on the shape an detail of it. Could you post a picture of it? |
