Question for those with a pet bird(s).. How do you get them to STAY PUT on a play gym, shoulder, etc? As I've mentioned before, we got a parrotlet 3 or 4 weeks ago. She is so nice and hand-tame but she refuses to stay on her play gym or even my shoulder! It makes it impossible for me to have her out as often as I like. It'd be different if she would stay on her play gym and play.. I don't have hours and hours and hours just to chase after her. Her wings are clipped but she can still fly. I am at my wit's end.. I have no idea what to do. Any suggestions? |
I always reccommend hand fed tame birds, that means they were syringe fed by humans cause they are always nicer and comfortable around humans. The birds i have stay on the shoulder forever cause i hand fed them, but i guess if everyday you put her on your shoulder longer and longer each time she will get used to it. Also just leave her cage open so she can sit on top of it w/o flying, put the dogs in another room while you do this tho. |
She is hand-fed... she is super sweet and loves coming out of her cage but she never sits still! She'd much rather attach my computer mouse and try to take the keys off. :p |

another idea would be putting a piece of fruit/veggie or even better, a fruit/veggie covered in peanut butter on her play gym ... so then she'll just stay there eating it for quite sometime, she'll start learning to just stay on that. it takes time really, like sarah said, its like training a dog. |
Thanks for the suggestions! |
