Was I wrong.... I had a Dr's appt. today. I was 10 minutes late...I was to be there at 4:40 got there at 4:50. The office closes at 5:00, they locked the door at 4:50 when I got there...I was late because I went to the location where I last went for an appt. since then they had moved and I wasn't aware of this, the phone # was still the same.... they refused to see me and told me to reschedule ...I told two people what had happened and they said they'd find a new Dr....:confused: Was it my fault and suck it up or was that uncalled for??? |
You'd think given the fact that they moved that they'd have been a little more understanding. I mean, we're talking 10 minutes here...not an hour. You'd have probably been in the waiting room for more than 10 minutes.:( |
I thought the same thing, that it was only 10 min.... I've never sat 10 min. in a waiting room it's at least 30 min....but when I got there I was the only person there and I just think they wanted to leave....I'm not sure now if it's worth looking for a new DR. over or just forget it... |
Didn't they bother to tell you when you made the appt. that they had moved? Or, send out a card to patients and let them know that? Sounds like they just wanted to leave. Was the dr. still there? |
I don't want to add fuel to the fire, but you might want to make sure that you aren't charged for that visit. Sometimes if you miss an appt. without canceling well in advance, they charge you for it. :eek: |
Well they sure it the heck make you wait,right? I think it stinks they did that to you! |

That would be the deciding factor for me. If they charged me for it, I would find a new doctor. Personally, I think it was completely uncalled for on their part. During a move, they need to be flexible. |

It could be just the office staff. Did the doctor know that they turned you away? |

Everytime I go to the doctor I spend at least 30 minutes in the exam room after being called back. It really makes me angry that the Dr's time is so much more important than yours, and it was only 10 minutes. Also, the fact that they failed to tell you that they moved seems pretty low. It sounds as though they don't need any more patients. |

I have to decide in the morning whether to reschedule or not....I am glad I posted this .....I thought the responses where going to be along the lines of, "Well you where late!" lol.... I'm glad the way I was feeling was the same as the response I'm getting...Thanks, I feel a little better that I'm not alone in thinking it was handled badly... |
I don't think that is right at all. I know at my doctor, they set appts up until 5pm (which is their closing time), I know I have been there at 5:20pm before (got there for a 5pm appt and was still there that late afterwards). I know that most doctors say that you have a full 15 minutes, but you don't. The last two times I was in one doctor, it was not even 5 minutes from the time I signed in to the time I left. That same doctor, I made an appt for me and forgot my daughters. I called two days later when I realized it and they said they couldn't get her in. I told them that the last two times I had been there, my appt was only 5 min, so I know that there would be time in my 15 min alotted time (we go in together as she is still a minor)...they got her in the same time but we were charged for two visits. (which was okay...better than waiting 2 months later). |

I am a nurse, and I hate this mentality, that THEIR time is so much more important than YOUR time. If you have ever waited 10 minutes or more for this doctor, then I would definitely find a new doc and I would tell the doc the reason you are leaving is that the message you got was that HER time was much more valuable than YOUR time. Also, not notifying you of the move, thus CAUSING you to be late, is unacceptable. If I had taken off work for the appointment that wasn't, I would be so PISSED!!! I despise that heirarchical mentality - because I am a doctor (or whomever) that I or my time is so much more important than you or your time. I once heard of someone (a lawyer, I think) who waited for their doc appointment for 30 minutes and then sent the doc a bill for 30 minutes of time. I've felt like doing that myself sometimes. Of course, I know that docs get behind sometimes and I don't mind the occasional wait, but some practices routinely run 30 minutes or more behind. That really ticks me off! |
i've always seen signs at dr's offices that you would have to reschedule after being 20 minutes late. they should not have locked the doors at 4:50 without posting a note on the door that they were closing early. |
I say if they charge you a "no show" fee I would def. change doctors. |
You weren't wrong at all! They moved their office and you got there in an appropriate amount of time IMHO. 10 minutes is not that late and like everyone else said, it's way less time than you usually wait in a Dr.'s office to begin with. They shouldn't schedule people that close to quitting time if they're not willing to see anyone that close to closing. What if you had to get a babysitter and get out of work just to make it to the appointment? It makes me mad and it didn't even happen to me. Can you imagine if next time they make you wait longer than 10 minutes and you say "I'm sorry, I can't see you today because now I just don't have enough time to do everything else I was supposed to". I'd say find a new doctor but most are like that :( |

getting me started on healthcare in this country... ggrrrr... that was RUDE of them! First off they should not schedule an appt at 4:40 if they close at 5. That leaves you pressured to leave when you might have questions or concerns and need to talk to the doctor for awhile. Second these doctors get paid ridiculous amounts of money and the sad part is, its not like you can boycott health care! :( Im sorry they did that to you. I find healthcare to be sooo impersonal and 'get in - get out' now. It really is sad! My doctors office ALWAYS runs 30 -45 mins behind. If I make a 3pm appt, I never see the doc until 330 at the earliest! And they close the office from 12 - 1 everyday for lunch! |

I think it was incredibly rude. I'd make another apt, make sure the doc knows what happened when you go. I called once for my daughter they said to just walk in and they would fit her in. I had my oldest take her because I didn't want to leave work and sit for hours. She called and said the front desk woman was rude and snapped at her saying we don't do walk ins. My daughter told her that that's what they had told us to do. Of course I went right down there. When we got into the docs I asked about the front desk people because I noticed that they were switched around and based on her attitude it appeared she really didn't appreciate it very much. She seemed surprised and I'm sure said something about it. |
I would like to thank all of you who have responded, (frankly I wasn't really expecting to get as many as I did ;) )and you where all supportive....I had just come home from the incident and was feeling unsettled so I just started typing.. I do feel awkward to make another appt. now, as some have mentioned, and I think now I couldn't look at the DR. without always thinking about the incident, especially since SHE was also telling me to reschedule...I would never feel comfortable around her again.... Now I have to get the book out and go, eeny- meeny- miny -mo.....:rolleyes: |
I would say first think about how well you know your Dr. and, how well does your Dr. know you. That is the whole reason to have a primary care Physician, for referals and to build a Dr./ patient relationship that would be a little more intimate than say, going to a specialist that you have never seen. Your Primary Dr. needs to be someone you trust and not someone who closes the door on you for such a trivial reason. I would ask friends in your area if they like thier Dr.'s and why or if you have an OBGYN ask who they like, then call your insurance company to see if they are in your network, choose a new PCP and make a new patient apointment with them right away. They will call your previous Dr. and get your medical records to your new office. It really is as simple as moving a chart, and since that is pretty much all you are to your current MD (a chart) I think its worth a shot. let us know how everything works out.:) |
