Heat or Ice? Over the summer at church camp I jumped off our cabin's porch and screwed up my knee. It was alright for a while. Now (I'm pretty sure it's because of the weather change) it's starting to bother me again. I was thinking I should put something on it. But I don't know whether to use heat or ice? Any ideas? |
If it's swollen use ice for 20 min and then use heat for 20 min. If it's just achy use heat and also take something for pain like advil or Ibprophen(helps with inflamation) Also go hav it checked out it might be more to it and may need some help. |
If its a fresh injury best thing ive ben told is Ice to keep the swelling down. After that use heat then ice then heat and ice again switching 20 minutes each. If the injury is an older one heat usually is all thats helpful. Well thats what I've always been told anyways. Hope you feel better!!! |
I do hope you are feeling better soon:( |
Thanks guys! That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure. It's not swollen. It's just sore. Like. Say I'm sitting down and I lift up my leg to straighten it out, I can only lift it up so far then it hurts. I'm gonna give it a while to see if it feels better before I go to the doctor. I'm not big on those people haha. |
Use ice until the swelling stops, then heat. |
Ice for the first 24 hours after injury, then heat. Moist heat is best. Wrap knee in a moist towel. Cover that with a plastic bag, then cover that with a heating pad. Feel better soon! |
You might try an anti-inflammatory too, like Ibuprofen (Advil) for 3 days - 2 tablets, 3 times a day (every 8 hours). Don't take it any longer than 3 days, and if it still hurts, then you probably should see a doc. You may have aggravated the old injury and now it is inflammed. If you can decrease the inflammation, it may get better. |
