Prepaid/Reloadable Visa and Mastercards Such as those greendot cards or rushcards? Does anyone have/use them? I thought about getting one just to keep funds for Susanah on. That way I can add a little each week and have it for emergencies, ordering things on line, or whatever she may need. |
Why don't you just open a seperate checking account for that purpose. You will get a debit card and it's with your current bank. You also get the added plus of it being a positive on your credit report vs looking like a negative like a lot of credit cards will be. |
Because DH said no to that. So I figured this was the next best thing. |
I have no idea why there would be a no to that. You figure it will only be actual money you have in that account to spend and not anything else. Do these cards charge a fee? |
I don't know or understand why he said no to that either. I thought it was a good idea. I found the rushcard and it charges a one time application fee. Then it only charges a monthly fee of $2.95 if your card is inactive for 3 months or more, but it stops charging the $2.95 after you use your card again (either to add or withdraw funds, shopping, etc). |
https://www.rushcard.com/ That's the website for the rushcard. I like the baby phat one. LOL I just worry about things like that being a scam. That's why I thought I'd ask if anyone else had or used them. |
I would probably do a paypal debit card first. You can add the funds to your paypal account and then use the debit card as needed. |

I would rather this as well. The paypal card has no fees and works very well. I have one that is attached to my sellers account on EBAY. I don't care to pay anyone a fee for having their card especially in a situation where it's like a secured credit card. They have your money in the bank and are earning interest on it while you decided on what you want to buy. |

I really like it (Visa), but the fees are pretty pricey. They are like $4.60 or so a month, and there are various other smaller fees. I also have to wait several days for my permanent card to be verified by Paypal. You have a temporary one for awhile and then they send the permanent one. So, there are a few challenges, but I use it to A. enforce my budget B. protect against identity theft online (only so much can be stolen and it is NOT tied to my checking account or regular credit card) You do have to be careful about anything with an open amount (like car rental). They will reserve the highest amount it could be until everything clears, so you might not have access to some of the money for awhile. |

I agree that the Rush card has way to many fees for me. I hope you find one that doesn't have all those fees. Savings and checking accounts are def. the best but since you can't go that route....hmm I dunno. |
