I should have some newer pics of myself soon. I will post them when I get a chance. |
I know this is an older thread but I must have missed this one. With all the talk about tatoos and piercings going on I have to comment on the subject. I myself have 3 tatoo's, my husband has both her arms tatooed, my daughter who is 15 has her bellybutton, lip and tongue pierced, and my son who is 12 just had his both ears pierced. I get so mush flack about it. There was a elerly lady who told me,,,,, "what kind of mother are you to let your daughter do that to herself?" I usually just walk away and try not to lose it. But this lady was so asking for it. I told her,,,,, my daughter is a straight "A" student since kindergarten, she is a good girl and we have a loving and open relationship. I am so lucky!!! I told her as long as she keeps her grades up and doesn't start acting up I will let her be her own person. I won't let her do something that will harm her or others and if she happens to mess up the belly ring will be the first one to come off because it is the one that hurt her the most". I hate when people judge me. One of my aunts tried to tell me something one time then I had to remind her that all 3 of my kids have had perfact addendance at school. (my son was sick once and had to miss) All get good grades,,, Not like her kids who did not finish high school, never got good grades, started having babies at 15 and don't want to work. I told my daughter that if she keeps up her grades through high school I will let her get a tatoo her senior year on her birthday. I'm a cool mom like that. But Like I said,,,,, It can all be taken away faste then they got them if they mess up and boy do they know it!!! We are a tattooed & pierced famlly who love yorkies!!! |
First I have to say that I might be one of the stareers. I have a tendency to stare at people. I'm a people watchers. I look at people and think about who there friends might be and what they like to do. I will look hard at people that wear different types of clothes and tatoos. Usually I'm admiring them. If asked I would say i like there outfit or tatoo. I have two tatoos and my belly pierced. I got my belly pierced because my parents were so adamently against it and I got my first tatoo because i thought they were cool. My belly piercing and 1st tattoo was for rebellious reasons (my parents told me they would stop paying for college if I got a tatoo or peircing), I decided I'd rather pay for my own schooling and be who I wanted to be then to be manipulated by them. And they didn't stop paying either. I used to dress like a slut in high school and college. I had a great figure and just wanted to show it off. I got so much flack from everyone. and boy did the rumors fly. But i knew I was a virgin (til 19) and not a slut and that's all that i cared about. But it made my parents and other adult think I was some kinda bad kid and I wasn't. I got good grades and was friendly towards everyone, but people will think what they think. And I found friends and a husband who let me be me and i couldn't be happier. |
Also people are shocked to find out that i go to church. I guess you can't have tatoos and go to church. Is that in the bible....thou shall not stab they selves with needles (is that the forgetten 11th commandment) I guess 10 commandments had more flow so they dropped the 11th. |
Ugh, I hate it when people feel the need to judge others. I like to dye my hair funky colors but yet people always assume I must be some kind of an uneducated punk without even knowing me. I just laugh it off because I figure they must have nothing better to do in their lives than be rude. People are always surprised to hear that I have two degrees and am in graduate school.. they are also shocked to know I'm married.. like I'm too bizarre to have ever landed a guy.  |
A wonderful and very wise man once said: "People who mind don't matter - and people who matter don't mind" Dr. Seuss Just smile when someone stares and say 'hi', you might be surprised at the results! |
I have a friend that sounds just like you!! She's awesome by the way. She got tired of the staring so she took a bunch of polaroids and started giving them to people who stared at her frequently and told them they wouldn't need to stare anymore...they could have a lasting impression. Needless to say no one took the pics, but they quit staring! |
I know this thread is super old, but it got me thinking. I'm freaking out lately because i got a tattoo on my toe that i've wanted for 2 years, after i got it I realized how visible it is & how i might look to others. Be honest what are the chances you would even notice a small tattoo on someone's foot? Would you even care? Would you think badly of them? |
No offense, but when you asked the lady, were you looking for an honest answer? Sounds like that is what you got. Maybe that was just HER opinion and had nothing to do with why the other people were staring at you. Now, that being said, I really don't care what people look like. I wouldn't judge you if I saw you. Mainly because what you do or look like has no effect on me whatsoever. I have 3 tattoos. (they stay coved most of the time, personal choice...I got them for ME, not for other people) I'd be the person asking you about one and complimenting you if it caught my attention. But that's just the way I am. Come to think of it, I'm sure that there have been times that people thought I was staring at them in a negative way, but it was probably because I was admiring their 'art.' (Guess I should really watch that, huh?) If others are displaying them, I like to look...they are all unique to each person and always different. But, I don't recall ever explaining to anyone why I was looking....hmmm... |
