Any raw/living foodists here? So I have decided to make a few lifestyle changes. I've been reading/researching about raw and living foods for about 3 years now, but have recently decided to get more serious about it. Just wondering if there was anyone on YT that lives this lifestyle. |
I don't live this lifestyle yet, but I have a cousin who does...Her and her husband swear by it now...About two years ago, she was very sick, couldn't get out of bed...(Mind you, she is in her twenties)...The doctors thought she had lupus, cancer, and everything else you can imagine. Her bloodwork was all off. She was in really bad shape, and everyone was very worried about her. The docs had her on 6 different meds... She started researching other ways to help herself, and she started doing the raw food/living foods lifestyle. Within 3 months of starting this new lifestyle, her bloodwork came back totally normal and she was off all meds. The Docs couldn't believe it...Since then, she hasn't been sick ONE day, and she looks better than ever!! She says she doesn't crave meat or anything like that at all...She craves what's good for her. She does a lot of juicing and she takes BarleyMax and stuff like that. I really want to take the plunge, as I've been toying with the idea of becoming vegetarian, but there's much more to this than just being a regular vegetarian. You're basically vegan :) |
I did it for awhile but with my schedule it was really inconvient, plus I live in a fairly small town and it was difficult to find enough variety to do it healthily. I'm sure you've probably already know about it, but if not www.rawfoodtalk.com has an EXCELLENT forum and can tell you how to make a raw version of almost any food. They even have a raw version of icecream. |
I keep reading stories exactly like what you have said about your cousin. So far the only negatives I've found are that you sometimes feel a little crappy while going through detox and getting all the yucky stuff out of your body. I am really really wanting to do this. I just know that I would have to do it slowly. As much as I would love to plunge head first into it, I'm more of a one toe at a time kind of girl....lol! I also have the long list of health problems and while I don't expect this to be the miracle cure or anything, I would like to at least feel better. Yeah, it is vegan. And it isn't only what you put IN your body, but also what you put ON your body (lotions, oils, perfumes, bug spray, etc.). I never thought about that until I came across recently. That completely makes sense though. |
That's true...You have to watch what you put on your body as well... My cousin recently came into town and we basically ate vegan with her the whole time, and it wasn't bad at all! She says that after awhile, you really just don't crave meat at all...She said she tried a piece of meat about 3 months after she started, and she didn't like it at all...And she didn't feel well eating it. I would really like to do this, as I do believe it's healthier for you...Meat and regular cow milk make your body acidic and many illnesses thrive on acidic bodies...I don't have the long list of illnesses, but I do have a desire to live a long and healthy life :) It's nice to know someone else who is interested in this diet. My entire family would freak out and think I was absolutely nuts if I did this. So, I'm not sure how I would tell them about this. They would have a hard time with me becoming a vegetarian, let alone vegan. Disapproval from them would be high. |
Oh my family disapproves of EVERYTHING I do. They are very toxic so I tend to just stay away from them. I love them, I just love them from a different state. :D MY DH is actually interested in going raw too. The kids aren't quite as excited about it lol. Having DH be supportive is nice though. I think its going to be harder for DH than for me. He is a meat and potatoes kind of guy and has been all his life. I eat meat, but I'm not a huge fan of it so that won't be too hard for me to give up. What is going to be hard for me is letting go of my diet coke! I am a caffeine addict! |
My hubby is on board too :) He wants to have a long, healthy life...It's so great when you have support. The caffeine won't be a problem for me, as I don't like to drink caffeinated or carbonated beverages, thank goodness. But yes, hubby is a meat and potatoes kind of guy too...It will be tough at first, but I think we'll really like it. We have no kids, so we don't have to worry about that quite yet. How old are your children? Are they younger or teens? |
The kids are 13, 10, and 4. My 13 year old is on board somewhat - she wants to be vegan, but isn't sure about going 100% raw. My 10 year old insists there is NO WAY he is giving up hot dogs and macaroni and cheese. It will be hard with my 4 year old, but only because my mother in law will make it that way. She will start screaming that she NEEDS meat and that we are starving her and mistreating her, and it will just turn ugly. Plus I know without a doubt that even if I feed her raw at home, my MIL and will find a way to make sure she gets meat and that can make her sick. So I think it will just be myself and DH going raw, and letting the kids make their decisions when they are a little older. Although, I would LOVE to have us ALL be "rawbies". |
I know exactly what you mean...If I had kids, I'm sure my mom would be feeding them meat. She thinks that if you don't eat meat you're hurting yourself and starving yourself....Haha! Your 10yr old is funny :) That's how most kids think at that age. And I'm surprised at your 13 yr old...How wonderful :) I asked about your kids because I'm wondering how I will handle that when I do have kids...Is there any research or anything that says how to have vegan kids and them get all the nutrients and things they need at those growing stages...Are there any good books on it? |
Yes! Try www.shazzie.com There is a place on her site to read all of her old blogs. She went through a completely raw pregnancy and is raising her daughter completely raw. Shazzie is amazing. |
http://www.shazzie.com/raw/journal/ That is the page with her blog entries. You can scroll down to the bottom and in 2004 is when she talks about eating raw while pregnant, etc. :) |
Thanks for the links! |
