Losing weight... How did some of you lose weight? I don't want to lose fast, I want to do it right and healthy. No pills. I gained 80 lbs while I was pregnant with my son. I've lost about 40 of it but I want to do more. What are some healthy snacks? That's my problem....I eat WAY to much before I go to bed. I'll have a Sprite and a huge bowl of ice cream or mashed potatoes....all kinds of junk. Hubby doesn't like healthy foods so it's junk around here. |
I use weight watchers - I got the WW at home packet and don't go to meetings or anything. A couple of friends and I do it together and give each other support. We weigh in every week too, just like we would if we went to meetings. It is really the only thing that works for me My favorite snack is 100 calorie kettle corn popcorn. I also eat some 100-150 cal granola bars. I can't eat lots of fruit for snacks, because it makes me feel hungry. I also love the cheddar flavor quakes (a sort of rice cake). In the summer I eat fresh strawberries on low fat ice cream. What I eat for snacks, kinda depends on how I feel, if I want sweet or salty - mostly it's salty for me. I like the light (not baked) potato chips at 70 calories per ounce. Anyway, good luck!!! |
Rather than think diet, think healthy. Eat food high in protein, high in fiber and moderate in complex carbs. Whole grains, fruits and vegies, high fiber bread and cereal, lean meat. Try to eat 35 grams of fiber per day and limit calories to 1200-1600/day. Don't go below 1200 calories a day. Avoid anything white like white bread, regular pasta, white rice. Choose whole grain/brown versions instead. No eating after 7:30 pm. If you can't stand that, try one of the fiber one cereal bars. Try and get 30 minutes of exercise every day. Last but not least, the scale lies. Muscle weighs more than fat. If you are building muscle and losing fat, the scale could say you are gaining weight. Trust the tape measure and how your clothes fit instead. |
I did Weight Watchers too. I lost 40 lbs. Its very easy to do and flexible. You can pretty much have whatever you want as long as you stay under your points. Once in a while I would even have a doughnut (my weakness) for breakfast. |

I know I've lost about 10 pounds or so, and what I did was instead of eating until I got full, I would drink more water because I heard water makes your stomach fuller, and then I would eat smaller portions. As a result, I lost the weight, (too much in fact) and everyone is saying I'm getting too skinny. However, I have a size 0 twin sister, what is skinny really? LOL. Now, I'm gaining it back. That's the fun part. |
Good advice everyone - I recommend you get the ABS diet for women. Its been sold out here in my area. |
I joined Weight Watchers six weeks ago and I love it. My favorite kind of snacks that I eat are those Quaker rice cakes they are really yummy and they only have 100 calories and are 2 points for a mini bag. I eat a lot of yogurt, turkey burger, veggies and fruits. Drink a lot of water too. And you need to exercise as well. You can get sugar free popsicle and those are yummy too when your looking for something sweet. I eat everything on a smaller plate and at my meeting tonight the woman was saying to try and leave 3 bites of your meal on your plate that will help you to cut back on how you are eatting. |

I go to the market and buy all several different types of fruits. If you have them and not junk food, you'll obviously eat them. I love kiwi, strawberries, bananas, blueberries, and peaches. Mix them all together and have a nice filling fruit salad. |

Oh sorry - It's a book. I saw it on 20/20 or one of those shows about 2 wks ago. He basically talked about what type of foods to eat and exercises especially for women. Try this link. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18784277/ |
So many ways to lose weight... Congratulations on your decision to improve your life. Improving your diet and lifestyle will be so rewarding. I am so excited for you!!!!!!!:D Drastic change is not really recommended for long term weight loss, (meaning keeping the weight off). 30-40 lbs is not THAT hard to lose. By no means am I saying its going to be easy, (especially with junk food around), but it can be done. I lost 110 lbs with the help of gastric by-pass and A LOT of exercise. In my opinion, these are the two most compelling factors when it comes to weight loss; sugar intake and exercise. If you were to do just a few min of exercise each day, you would see a difference. And if you were to cut out artificial sugars from your diet you would see a HUGE difference as well. Just start with walking. Just walking. Really, this could motivate you to do more each day. Or bike riding or swimming- something you could track and increase as you see fit. Cutting sodas alone will do wonders. Or switch to diet at first, then eventually try to eliminate. Just try no candy or sweets, of any kind, for one week and you will see the difference in your body. You will get tons of advice in this area, and as always, check with your doctor. The sugar thing may make you shakey and stuff the first week, I was really suprised- and so were my sis-in-law and her husband when they gave up soda with me!! I have had amazing results! But I was VERY strict with myself for a long time. I still enjoy exercising a great deal! Best of luck and PLEASE pm me if you need anything else! I may even muster up the courage to share some before and after pics! lol... I could talk about this subject for hours but don't want to bore you poor souls to death! hehe... :p |
Good luck! I have lost a lot of weight this year. I basically did low carb for a long time then started adding in more things with getting closer to my goal. I eat high fiber fruits (apples & berries) and all veggies (except corn/carrots/potatoes), lean meats, eggs, on occasion I'll eat a little brown rice, beans or popcorn. But for the most part I try to eat whole, unprocessed foods. I do have my daily coffee and an occasional diet soda. It's amazing when you commit to cutting sugar out of your diet, how much you will lose the craving for them. |
MY Husband has lost 55 lbs on Weight watchers, Hs goal is 70 lbs so he still has a ways to go but he is very happy. He eats turkey, chicken, fish, salad, and fruits and vegetables. I want to lose about 10 lbs so I think I am going to go on it |
