Anyone else startingclasses this week? Anyone else start classes this week? I just got back into town yesterday and I start tomorrow. :( This semester I will be taking 5 classes (maybe 4- I am taking scuba diving for fun and my drop it if I decide the other will be to much on me), and going to campus 4 days a week. I am ALREADY being bombarded with things that professors need me to before I start classes (background checks, child abuse checks, tb tests, tons of books). Couldn't they just let me enjoy the last few days of summer and ask for all this stuff on the first day of class? :rolleyes: :) |
Are you going into education? The background check, finger printing and TB test need to be redone ever time you change your place of employment. In the last 3 years I've had to get them done 3 times - for subbing, student teaching and when I got my job last year! A waste of time and money :thumbdown You would thing once you've been finger printed and background checked they could just look you up. |
Wow, what kind of classes are you taking that require a background/child abuse check? Anyhow, good luck with the classes! |
I'm an education major. This particular class is one where I have to do service learning for a total of twenty hours (2 hours for 10 days during the semester). It's weird, I've taken other classes where I did service learning and I never had to get to get those things done before! One of the tests is $40! :eek: It's really sad that you pay all this money to go to the school and they can't even cover the costs of the checks and tests themselves, considering that they are for classes that they require. |
They have to be safe, so they do a thorough background check if your in the education field. |
WOW you are gonna be busy!!! I start teaching this week and of course I have 8am classes on Tuesday and Wed. At least I'll get out of my office :) Good Luck with your classes! |
Yep, I'm a teacher. We've been in meetings and workshops for a little over a week and the first day for kids is Tuesday. By the way, even my students who tutor younger students have to have background checks now, as do parent volunteers. I know it's a pain, but I think it's a good thing. :thumbup: |

Unfortunately, I knew of a coach who stayed just ahead of the system. He didn't start molesting until he became a teacher...fingerprints were done before that...new school saw that in his file and didn't check again. I think that's why the law changed to run a new check with every school change. He hurt a lot of girls before they stopped him. Thank God he'll be in jail for a LONG time now. |
Yep, I'm a teacher too and I start classes on Wednesday. I LOVE the start of school, though (yes, I'm a nerd! :)). |
Me too. :) Can't wait for the kids!! :D Could do without some of the inservice programs though...but most are important. |

I started last Monday!! Not fun at all. I am a Finance major. I am taking 6 classes this semester plus work, it sucks but I wanna be done sooner and working in a field that I enjoy :) |

ya i start on thursday :( Thursday and Friday are like "orientation" days for Teacher's College..i sure hope it is nothing like the orientation days for first year undergrad.. lol... those were a bit over the top! my scheduale isn't too bad this year... i am in a highschool classroom every friday which i'm super nervous about!!! but thank god those don't start for two weeks!! |
That is a terrible story. My heart goes out to those children. It's crazy how people can be so horrible they will do anything to hurt these kids. I do think we need to be safe I wish my district paid for it though. Like BubblPopElectrc said you pay so much for classes and they don't cover these things and as a first year teacher last year just out of school I was broke and my first check went to fingerprinting/checks and mentor fees. It's really sad how we have to protect kids now a days - teachers are supposed to be people you can trust :mad: |
My classes start tomorrow. Two via internet and one on Satuday. There go my weekends for the next 3 months! Hopefully it will be worth it when I get that little piece of paper to hang on the wall:p |
I can't wait until the first day back - because I don't have to go!!!! I retired in November and this is the first year I'm not in that "OMG I have to go back to work" mode. I'm either going to the beach, the movies or my couch to watch Law & Orders all day on the first day of school, while I gloat and relax my butt off. I do start teaching at a nearby college on Sat. mornings in a couple of weeks, but the only stress involved there is getting up early. I love it. Truthfully, I think teaching is incredible. I loved my job and I loved my kids so much. My life has been so enriched by them, it's unbelievable. So, for all of you who do have to go back as students, or as teachers, I wish you a wonderful year filed with great experiences. |
I just graduated, so no more classes this semester for me! But I work at an elementary school in the office - and school starts tomorrow! |

My two online classes started last Wednesday. And I was excited up until I looked at the course load and I had 3 papers to write for one of my classes. These go until October and then my other two start up. So should be fun! I'm almost done..I keep telling myself that over and over again. LOL!:p |
I think being a teacher would be so fun :) |
