yorkie colors When we got our yorkie as a 9 wk old puppiy she was black with gold markings. Then around 6 months, the gold on her legs, chest & some of the face has turned a creamy color. Am wondering where in the world did the creamy color come from? I hope eventually the gold comes back. Someone said that maybe she is a silkie terrier instead, but I don't believe that. Do yorkies keep changing colors until they are an adult? I think somewhere I have read that. |
I don;t know, Do you have any pictures of her? |
pup Yorkies change color for many months..she may darken again, but may not. How about that for an answer? |
my yorkie bazil who is two now changed colors several times before he reached his blue and gold coloring....first he was black and tan then he turned to almost all silver! it was soo weird, then he changed to like a very light silver and gold then the two colors darkened until he is his colors today! i wouldnt be too worried. my other yorkie bella who is 9 mos. is still black and tan mostly and a little silver on her head. |
Yes, the color change is normal. I remember my neice crying when she found out my first Yorkie puppy wasn't going to look like that when he grew up:D . My Tiah is 5 years old and still changes colors. Cowboy is 2 and is still changing. They say "Yorkies are like a box of chocolates.....". They resemble each other a LOT as pups, but you never know what you'll get as an adult. |
I read in "The Yorkshire Terrier Handbook" published by Barron's, that a yorkie will change colors all her life, and that has surely been true of my dogs. They both have very light coats, and are still very young. Some yorkies even lose the darker coloring on their back after about 3 years. The dark back coat is sometimes a sign of adolescense, and some dogs will lose that in their later years. But, some yorkies keep the black and gold coloring all their lives! I think it is like a surprise in every puppy, because you never really know what you are going to get! And, most yorkies have every color a dog could hope for somewhere in their coat. Trust me, your dog will turn out beautiful, whether or not it changes over the years! |
