Do any of you have a KIRBY?? 3 Attachment(s) Today a salesman came to our door and asked if he could demonstrate the KIRBY for us. I nor my husband had ever heard of it. He said it's a vacuum/carpet shampooer. So we agreed, and let him come in. It took him almost 2 hours to show us EVERYTHING this thing could do. It seriously put my husband and I in awe! It was unbelievable how many different things you can use this thing with. He poored salt on our carpet, and then vacuumed over it with OUR vacuum about 15 times, THEN he went over it with the KIRBY, and showed us how much of the salt our Bissell vacuumed missed (which was A LOT!) Well needless to say, we ended buying one. It is orginally $1899, but we got it for $1300, and we don't have to pay anything on it until September... and it's $59 a month. I know, I know... It's expensive, but if you would of seen this thing, and what it can do, you woulda got one too!!! lol. I attached some pictures of what it picked up on our carpet. The white ones are all the stuff he got off our carpet (there are more, but I only put a few of them in the pic), then the black one is of the dead skin cells (I know it's gross) that he got off of our mattress!!!!! He also shampooed my whole living room for me, which I was happy about!! Do any of you have one of these? Or have you heard of them? Let me know!!! Their awsome though!!!!!!!! |
THEY HAVE BEEN AROUND IN ENGLAND FOR SOME TIME AND YES THEY ARE VERY GOOD AND TRUE EXPENSIVE,I DONT NEED THEM ANY MORE AS I HAVE WOODEN FLOORS BUT THATS WHAT ID HAVE OR A DYSON WENDY AND ROSIE :rose: |
That is a big name in the Midwest. I owned them years ago I felt they did a good job but I just got sick of the chore you had to go through to use each individual device. I am sure it is a lot more convenient now days. Now I have a built in vac system and my own rug cleaner. I have read your previous posts so I know you are pretty young so for you it isn't a bad investment at all and it is something that will last you if not a lifetime at least for a very, very long time. |
You will NEVER buy another sweeper! I have an aunt (great aunt, actually) who got a Kirby when she first got married. It is the ONLY sweeper she has ever had, and she talks of it much as one would another child..."THE KIRBY". My aunt is now in her 80's and I know that both of her kids are fighting over who will get the sweeper when she passes! It's just that good! |
My aunt left one to us - it was a nightmare to use if you wanted to change tools and soooooo heavy, have a dyson animal now and it is just as good at picking up hair etc less than half the weight and easy to use. |
We bought a reconditioned one and we love it!!!! Its self-propelled: unlike the old ones that were too heavey for me! |
I have one and love it. My husband still shakes his head about it when he thinks what we paid for it. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat though. |
My daughter (also military) has one. She loved hers but the base housing where she is now at Cherry Point doesn't have carpet -- its all laminate flooring so hers is in storage. |
I had one yrs ago bought it second hand and it works great but would rather have a puppy and use my old sweeper. lol |
My daughter has a Kirby, but it's not a vacuum...it's a little yorkie. LOL |
Oh my gosh, my mouth dropped at that price. That is great if it is worth it to you, I just had no idea vacuums costed that much. I know we had a kirby when I was a kid, they have been around a long time and are a very good brand. |
Well, just thought I'd update ya'll! We ended up returning it today. We decided that $1300 is a big investment for us right now, especially just for a vacuum! It had nothing to do with the Kirby, because when I seen the guy doing the demonstration, I feel in love w/ it. LoL But..... I'd rather spend $1300 on somethin else, like a yorkie, or stuff for a yorkie!! haha.. My husband doesn't know that part though. But, I do plan on getting one in the future, because I don't think we will be able to find a better, more powerful vacuum out there! |
Let's put it this way. I am on the downside of a downhill run, as far as age. I remember the Kirby when I was a kid. I have a Rainbow vacumn. That is another awesome machine. |
You should also check out the Dyson Vacuums. I have had mine about a year and should be used to it by now, but I still am so amazed every time I vacuum at all the stuff it sucks up! I should be a saleman for them because I have sold 6 people on them just by giving a demo. They are quite a bit cheaper than the Kirby. |
We have a couple of Oreck's ... they are awesome for a lightweight cleaner! They are very easy to travel with. ;) |
vacuum I found the Kirby too heavy..loved my Electrolux...the cord retracts, light weight..the Rainbow clodded up my toliet..water filled and needs dumping. The salesman said to flush the used water. my brother the plumber loves Rainbows..$$$$. So I had to go outside to dump the water..not good in the winter or rain. Moved to Florida and have few carpeted areas..I now use a cheap one and it works fine...but I do love an Electrolux, but so expensive!!! |
If you really wanted the kirby, you can check on ebay they have bunches of them listed...some used some new. Also, does anyone watch Dogg the Bounty Hunter? I love that show and he used to be a Kirby salesman. That was the first I had ever heard of the Kirby vaccums. |
We have a Rainbow and love it! My parents first bought one 25 years or so ago when I was small and they still have it and it's in great shape! I bought a reconditioned one about 5 years ago. At the time we lived in a house with carpet and the Rainbow was fantastic but I think it's an even bigger must-have when you have wood floors (which is what we have now)! My sister just got a Dyson and they have three bigger shedding dogs in the house. She says she loves her Dyson. We've only been in our new house (in the country) about two weeks but another thing I have found that I couldn't live without is our Shark. Anyone have one of those. It's fantastic for just running through the house real quick. No cords - it's rechargeable and it picks up great! |
We had one of those when I was in high school... HATED IT!! It was SOO heavy, so as much as I hated doing chores , I really hated having to sweep!! And I remember my mom telling what a good job it did, and how expensive it was,,, I would tell her " for that price it should run itself"!! I think she still has it... Im not sure,,, Oh Im sure for that price! ha :D |
LOL my hubbie used to be a Kirby SalesMan, we could have gotten one for one of his incentives but we were room-mating in an apartment with hardwoodfloors at the time so we just tookm the cah instead. He sold it to alot of customers as well as family friends. They are all still very happy with theirs and it's been over 4 years. i will definately get one when we purchase am home. But right now, I'm considering a dyson for our apartment. Not only do they work well but they also look quite trendy. Comesin all sorts of fun colors like yellow and purple. |
Who? What? I've never heard of these, but they sound great. |
I bought my first Kirby when I was 24. I was living in a studio at the time and my boyfriend (husband now) thought it was so dumb of me. I thought he was the dumb one since his mother had had Kirby's since before he was born. My parents also had Kirby's for years. Now that we live together he wants to get another so that he can keep the first one just for the cars. :D I think they are really great machines. IMO I would not buy any other. ;) |
