Well, had the interview and let's just say it was VERY discouraging. I was interviewed by the postmaster and one of his assistants. While, the flow of the interview went well, I was told that both of my vehicles were too small (Nissan Versa and Jeep Grand Cherokee). In this position, you have to drive your own vehicle and EVERYONE that gets hired here starts off as a Rural Carrier Associate (bottom of the totem pole). You stay on as a temp for 6-7 years. The job averages one day a week (if it were Saturdays, no problem) but during summer months can go more days a week. One scenario they gave me was...someone can be out 6-8 weeks for surgery and you'll work 6 days a week during that time. The very next week, you can be back down to 1 day a week. I don't know what I'm going to do since I need a steady pay check. Well, they said that if I were hired, then someone from personnel will be contacting me. If it happens, it happens but I am happy at my current position working for the school district...I just wish that it paid more.:( |
That is too bad. Even if it were one day a week for that long, you could probably work around your work with the schools or get something else to fill in. Will the benefits make up for some of the lost time when it is one day a week?? So many people apply for these jobs but few interview so you are way ahead of the game but if you have to buy a car??? Maybe you could start an internet business if you get this. Your time is your own and you are the type of person that would make it work. |

There are NOOOO benefits when you're a temp. You have to be on a full time route to get any type...soooo.......... |

He also went thru almost 3 years before getting full time status last month and at different times didn't work too much. He would work part time evening jobs during the leaner times. It was a struggle for him and we did have to help him out financially. If there is any way you could work it out it would be a great job for you to get. And, if you're lucky others might be close to retirement. That was the case with Blake's situation. Good luck again! |
I cant believe they said your Cherokee was to small.... that doesnt make sense to me. I wish the best for you with whatever you decide. |
Tough decision...wish you well. Maybe just getting your foot in the door as a temp would be okay if you had another job, with a flexible schedule. It would be a great opportunity...if only you could do it. Either way, I really do hope you are happy with the ending result. Good luck!!! |
Kimberly I am a rural carrier, it took me 7 years to go full time and I drive a Jeep cherokee, as a matter of fact almost everyone in our office does...my son started in April of this year as a RCA and he is getting 3 to 4 days aweek...it all depends on your office but I don't know of any sub in our office that doesn't get 2 to 3 days a week, pm me if you have any questions that I might be able to answer, good luck and being a sub isn't that bad....:) |
