Anyone been to Sanibel Island?
 
I am wondering if any one can tell me about any Pet Friendly Hotels or places to stay for a few nights on Sanibel Island off the West Coast of Florida.

My sister is in college in Fort Myers and my hubby and I are thinking of going over to see her but stay someplace secluded and fun while on the West Coast and we want to take Murphy and Mia since we heard the beaches are pet friendly too. :)

Sanibel Island is beautiful. We used to go there a lot when my parents had a place near Ft Myers. Make sure you take shoes to walk on the beach! There are so many shells you can not walk barefoot on Sanibel! Also, take time to watch the sunset. Gorgeous!!

Sorry, can't help you with pet friendly rooms, but I'm sure you can search pet friendly Sanibel and find something!

We love Sanibel but haven't taken the dogs. You can also try dogfriendly.com. I didn't check to see if they had listings for Sanibel but I've used them before to find places in St. Augustine. Have fun!:)

Hee, hee, bet you wont need those shoes. Us Florida girls are born to walk on any beach.;) Or maybe it's just me and the abuse I've put my feet through over the years.:p

YOUR right me too Nikki.....we are used to walking on HOT pavement and rough beach sand, not to mention all the flip flops I wear my feet are TOUGH girl ha, ha .... abused feet here too - oh well. :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

Sanibel is a gorgeous island :) You will love it there! It's only a few minutes from Fort Myers too. I still can't walk on the beach at Sanibel barefoot, and I am a Florida girl. LOL :) It hurts!! There are sooooo many sharp shells. Naples is gorgeous too. There are some hotels on 5th Avenue and near the beach. I don't know if the hotels are dog friendly though...I can't remember.

Hi, which two are pet friendly? I can't seem to pull this up and we're heading to Sanibel in September. We go every year, but this is the first year that we've had Scooter.

Thank you....broken jagged shells at that, that is what is on the beach instead of sand ;) We used to like to get there at sunrise to look for whole shells. I was always amazed at how many people would be out that early!

Also, my son lives in Florida, and he said he didn't hurt when he walked across the blistering black pavement either, he couldn't even feel it his feet were so tough, however that didn't stop him from getting blisters under his calluses that caused a blood infection :eek:

I have been, but not looked into pet hotels. Its georgeous there!!!!! Take lots and lots of pics.

I haven't been to Sanibel in about 5 yrs but I swear I don't remember wearing shoes on the beach- y'all are really making me question if I need to up my pedicure frequency.:p

LOL. All I remember is all those broken jagged shells! But it has been more like 10 years since I've been down there, we used to go every spring break, so maybe it has changed since then! I would love to go again someday.
