Dating a cat person... I may be way ahead of myself but I cant help but to wonder how this works. I know lots of people who have cats and dogs but I am just deathly afraid to let Diezel go around cats. I recentley started dating a man who has not 1 BUT 3 CATS... LOL 1 is declawed the other is blind still has claws and then there is a 2 month old. I guess my question is can it work? Like what if this does work out how do I handle this? |
Hi there, of course it can work. I have 2 cats and 2 yorkies and it works perfect. My cats were here first but now my yorkies own the house. Good luck. |

whenever playing got to rough, i would just separate them. most of the time, they did their own thing and left mocha alone. i don't know if this helps, but this was my experience. |
I would never date a cat person because I'm allergic to them and it wouldn't be fair for me to say 'you're with me now and I can't be around cats.' That would be like some guy telling me that he can't be around my dogs. In your case, since you are just afraid to let your dog near the cats, I think it is possible to work something out. I think they can learn to co-exist. They may not be the best of buds but I've seen dogs and cats learn to tolerate each others presence |
:D My cat actually defends Scooter when the other dogs get too rowdy! That's not to say she doesn't pounce on him sometimes when he walks by - hee, hee! |
let him around the 2 month old first and go from there |
I don't have any cats, so I can't speak from personal experience. I would think they would need to be raised with them. If not, I would say that it also depends on the personality of the yorkie(s) involved as well as the personaliy of the cat(s). I do know we have had people post here in the past and it was a nightmare. Some have had eyes scratched. Some have had to get rid of the cats. As you can tell, I'm not much of a cat person. I like them outside.:D |
Cats and dogs... Yeah it can work! I love both cats and dogs, but my husband is allergic to cats! We love Yorkies 1st and formost of course... But why don't you double-date... that is introduce your yorkie to THE CATS! and see if they all get along. If not, then maybe you have to think hard...Which is most important my yorkie, or my boyfriend OR your boyfriend has to think which is more important my cats or my girlfriend! Good luck!!!:) |
I have 2 cats that I've had for 13 yrs now; Max is only 2 and they get along just fine. My male cat is a little skittish with strangers, so he stayed away from him for awhile, but now, he runs right up to Max in the morning (the cats have their own room and bathroom here). They're older, so they don't appreciate him jumping on them much, but the female loves to roll around and play with him for 5-10 minutes or so. It's pretty cute; wish I had a video cam! |
Thanks everyone.. I mean I am thinking wayyyyyy into the future right now but I have also heard stories about cats going right for the eyes.. He says his cats are cool and calm but diezel is 2.5 years old and doesnt entertain other dogs at all.. sniffs a lil .. anyway thanks again for feed back.. its been forever since I met someone lol Im not gonna let his cats scared me off... I will just have to demand he declaws them all lol (j/k) |
Ellie is very cat aggressive. It is similar to the kind of aggression she shows around bunnies and ferrets (you know the Yorkie doing what it was bred to do). She growls at cats, chases them constantly for days. She certainly does enjoy doing it though. I think she might try and kill kittens. We will never test that out.;) I think it can work but it depends on the dog. |
It can work. I have a ragdoll cat,2 yorkies and 2 great danes. They all sleep togather and eat togather. My cat is also alot bigger than the yorkies so when they play chase the roles are reversed. Has his cats been exposed to dogs? Normally the cat will just hide until they are ready to be friends. |
