itch mites How many of you have heard of seen anything about these really itchy things?? a week ago my boyfriend got a bite from one of these, we thought it was just a regular mosquito bite.. but a few days later.. it didn't look like a mosqutio bite, so we just thought a spider had bit him... A few days later, my friend and I also got this bite.. again we just thought.. mosquito.. This morning we were watching the news.. and it turns out that this horrible itchiness is an "itch mite" I have a couple of bites on me and they are driving me completely nuts! Doctors say to use benedryl (I guess any kind) and hydrocortisone 1% to relieve the itchiness (but it's still unbareable) Symptoms last 10-14 days:rolleyes: (ugh). They say not to scratch it because it "supposedly" carries a deadly infection that can go into your blood. And if it gets blistery, to seek medical attention right away. There are only 5 (or 7) states that have this bug (why does Illinois have to be one of them?!) Does anyone know anything more about this bug? I hope it doesn't get on our pets; Athough Kayah isn't scratching at all and I'm ready to rip off my skin Here's the link for anyone interested: http://www.nbc5.com/health/13888171/detail.html |
Whoa! How scary and gross! I haven't heard of these?! I remember years and years ago, there were scabbies (is that right) that were really itchy...I think it went around school at one time. YUCK! Please don't scratch!!! Can the doctors not give you a stronger itch medicine? I know my dermatologist has given me different itch creams for different things that seem to work 100% better than over the counter stuff. Oh, there is a pump lotion called Sarna (you can get it at Wal-Mart, but you have to ask the pharmacist for it)....it is about $9 or so...it works wonders! |
I work at Walgreens and I think we carry Sarna.. but no, there really isn't anything to help it... I think they said something about antibotics... but I hate taking any kind of medecine... so I guess I'm just going to have to "tough it out" But I did think somebody else may know a little more about it.. maybe they went to sleep:p ;) |
So how can you tell if it these itch mites or fleas if you haven't seen either one of them? Fleas bites on people can be very similar to what you have described - especially if you are sensitive to their bite. |
it looks almost exactly like a mosquito bite.. but it has "like" a bite mark in the middle.. but it isn't a spider or any other kind of bite... also, like I said, I work at walgreens so we had a LOT of people come in yesterday with the same marks and crazy itchiness.. our pharmacists also got a few e-mails from doctors |
Yucky. We have no see me's in Florida. You literally can't see them, but they bite like crazy. |
I heard about them on the news today!!! My dtr has what she thought was mosquito bites all over her legs. I better take a look at them. She said they itched so bad. |
it's crazy itching! and the worst part is that you can't really do anything about it.. you can put hydrocortisone.. but that only works for a short time.. and the itching begins all over again... the best thing is when you finally give in and scratch away.. then it's heaven:p I'm so glad my bites finally went away *sigh of relief* </IMG> |
Oh I hope they aren't in Georgia (according to the site I don't think they are). We have "chiggers" here and they are bad enough! If these things are worse than chiggers then my butt is staying indoors forever! |
If anyone is itchy from any kind of bite or sting, go to Wal Mart and get Tea Tree Oil. It stops the itching almost immediately. :) You might have to get accustomed to the smell, but I like it. It also is WONDERFUL on burns, cuts, etc... |

Here is a website that tells about chiggers http://lancaster.unl.edu/pest/resour...ers(008).shtml I had them once when I was little (about 5 yrs old). I got them when we went camping. That was the first and the LAST time I went camping. |
Ooooo I HATE chiggers!!!! They are horrible!!!! You can't see them, then they bite you and it is horrible. We use to put clear fingernail polish on the chigger bites. Someone once said that the red spot in the middle of the bite (which I always thought was the "bite mark") was the chigger...so maybe that is why we always put the clear polish on it? I don't know. Tea Tree Oil is an awesome thing! You can use it for EVERYTHING.....athletes foot, acne, dandruff....etc.....we caem across it when my daughter started kindergarten. She had long (down to her behind) hair and the doctor said to mix alittle in her shampoo to deter lice.....and you know, we used it all thru her time at public school and she NEVER had lice!!! I remember mites called Scabbies...but they made a rash that looked like poison ivy...you know the really itchy bubbly looking rash. But I think they were mainly on people's hands? But I could be wrong.... |
