warning: for women only! lately, i've been itchy in "that area". i'm not sure if it is a yeast infection although i did call my gyno (friend's mother) and she suggested i use vagisil for a couple of days, and if it doesn't clear up, to go see her. rundown of symptoms: just itchyness-not too severe, but enough to pay attention to. no painful or burning sensations when i urinate nor is there any discharge (no smell whatsoever). haven't been sexually active (we have not done the deed in 2 months--thanks to me. being in control. haha.) i think i may have an allergic reaction to the new soap i've been using (aveeno), or it could be something else? i know it's kind of gross and personal, but if anyone could understand what i'm going through, it would probably be you. i've consulted with my mother, some friends, etc..they all told me to use the vagisil and wait a couple of days. what to do? |

I know if your feeling that way and especially if you've been or are on antibiotics , you should be eating Yogurt ( the kind that has the live and active cultures in it ). For some reason the good bacteria in the Yogurt helps to stabilize the bad bacteria "down there". It's always worked for me. |
I'd stop using the soap. Go back to your old soap that you didn't have problems with. If that doesn't help, then to see a gyno. |
I agree eat yoqurt. Also I have found Monistat 7 works alot better than vagisil. I forget what the actve ingredient is in Monistat but it s a medication. Vagiisiil the active ingredient is vitamin e I believe. I just had the same symptoms you have and used monistat 7 for a couple of days and it cleared up |
omgosh. thanks! this is the first time it's EVER happened to me so i completely freaked. i stopped using the soap and ate yogurt this morning. hopefully it'll be better within the next couple of days. vagisil seems to wear off after a couple of hours. did that ever happen to anyone else? so then i put it on again and it says i should not apply more than 3-4 times a day. but if it wears off, there's no way i wouldn't go over 3-4 times a day. maybe i'll look into monistat too. |
Yea the monistat 7 wears off and you have to reapply it too. I dont remember reading any restrictions on how many times you can reapply it but maybe i didnt read carefully enough |
Also, just like for the furbabes, Benedryl will help the itching. |
I used vagasil before. It helped, There is also some pills to take, if you PM me I can call and ask my mom what they name of them are. I HATE having problems "down there." |
just wanted to thank everyone for their advice and responsiveness. i'm doing much better today. it's not completely healed, but definitely better. thanks again! |
There's a new product out their by Vagisil that detects an infection if you are not sure you have one. Also, if you still have that problem, I wouldn't get any OTC products because they take longer to work. I'd ask for a one time pill called Oral Diflucan from your doctor. That's what I use. ;) If he won't give you one for some reason, then get Monistat 3. That's only for 3 days as opposed to 7. They do have Monistat 1 also, but I found the 3 worked the best. Good luck! Infections are a bitch! |
Could also be a reaction to your laundry detergent or dryer sheets-have you changed those or used something new lately? Deodorant tampons/pads can also bring these types of symptoms on. If you don't feel better in a few days, see your doctor. |
It could be so many things. If it's an "external" itch with no other symptoms, it could be your soap, laundry detergent, fabric softener, deodorized feminine products, panties that don't allow you to breathe, etc. And, it could also be caused from stress! I've had phases recently (stress-induced) and spoke with my gyno just this morning about it while in for my exam. She said to try Monistat, especially at night. You don't want to be scratching while you are asleep! If these meds don't clear it up and you've cut out troublesome products (like those everyone's mentioned), then it might be time for a checkup and scrape so they can run some tests. Oh, and you really aren't supposed to use soap "down there" because most are perfumed and can cause irritations such as this. Now, I have seen a Summer's Eve feminine wash, but I haven't yet tried it. |
If I ever have to take an antibiotic, I have to request an antifungal (sounds so nasty - like I have a fungus growing out of my hoohoo:eek: ) or it will develope into a yeast infection. Thank goodness it's a very cheap prescription. But, like other said, it could be be allergic reactions to soap or detergent, tight pants, heat rash, any number of things. Good luck! If we were guys, we could scratch those itches anytime and nobody would think anything of it. |
wow..thanks everyone. i did figure out what was the problem. my gyno said it had something to do with the heat and moisture and when i sweat (anywhere..arms, legs, etc) i tend to itch. all it was was just a little inflammation, no discharge, no white bumps, no infections. now that i've got it figured out, she told me to continue with the vagisil, since it seems to be working, and to wear pantyliners (and change them often.) phew. good thing it wasn't an infection. again, thank you so much for all your concerns, advice, and support. :) |
Do you use fragrance soaps? I had a itchy problem too, my doctor told me it was the soap I was using ( fragranced soaps) she suggested that I use non-fragrance soap below there, and fragrance soap for my body. And it worked. Oops, just read your last post! That's great you found out the cause. It is irritating to get that horrible feeling! |
Do you use any type of bubble bath? I have just seen your last post! good to hear it was not an infection of some sort! I have been told bubble baths are not a good idea..can cause infections. |
Be careful with Monistat. I discovered I'm allergic to the active ingredient in it. It caused me to break out in hives on my arms, legs, palms of hands and feet itching...not good. |
if anyone ever has that problem i swear by ( diflucan) its only one pill and it knocks the heck out it ... in one day you will feel better i promise. that was the best thing they ever came out with. |
i know my post is late, but i got some generic stuff at cvs and it came with a free sample of an anti itch cream for that area. i liked that alot. i've also used diflucan, but it isn't an immediate relief for me. |
