Was Looking For support And Got MY Feelings Hurt I JOINT A SUPPORT GROUP BECAUSE DUKES MY 31 MONTHS OLD YORKIE . WE FOUND OUT HE HAD A LIVER SHUNT 4 MONTHS AGO.. WE HAD ONE LITTER WITH DUKES(MORKIES THEY NOW 17 MONTHS OLD AND THEY WAS NEUERED AND SPAYED WITH 6 MONTHS).BECAUSE WE LIKE THAT BREED AND WE KEPT THEM ALL. WE ARE NOT BREEDERS, WAS ONE TIME ONLY WE DIDN'T FOUND OUT UNTIL DUKES WAS 26 MONTHS OLD THAT HE HAD LIVER PROBLEMS. SO AS WE FOUND OUT ,WE HAD HIS CHILDREN TESTET. OUT OF 4 .ONLY ONE CAME BACK NORMAL. THAT WAS IN APRIL 2007. I HAD THEM TESTET AGAIN LAST MONDAY .AND THE TEST RESULT CAME BACK FRIDAY. NOW OUT OF 4 . THANK GOD NOW 3 TESTS CAME BACK NORMAL. I WANTED TO SHARE THE NEWS. WITH THE SURRPORT GROUP. INSTEAD BEEING HAPPY FOR MY DOGS AND ME . ONE MEMBER WROTRE ME THIS E-MAIL. HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOU READ THAT. THAT WHAT THE MEMBER WROTE TO ME I have lots of problems with this whole designer breed thing going on - most of the people breeding em aren't doing health testing but they're making scads of money from breeding them and selling them which just encourages them to keep producing. And do they follow all of their pups? to know they're not ending up in rescue or shelters? They should. I think lots of people buying them are impulsive and respond to just what you noted, ohhhh, they're so cute. Craigs List is full of people "moving and can't keep", "don't have time for" and there are tons of designer breeds. |
sorry... I am glad things are working out for the better regarding your dogs. Once a breeding has taken place it does no good to find fault with the person. If you were asking for advise as to the possiblity of breeding the mixes or a repeat breeding, then I feel it is fair to voice an opinion...and I would certainly do so...after the fact it is pointless... I would have asked the emailer to forward a photo of themsleves..I have never seen a perfect person who makes no mistakes.. Best wishes to you... |
I just read your received e-mail and I didn't find it evil or vicious.....I got the sense this person was just referring to the fact that in general the business of designer breeds is is turning into a "crank em out & forget them" type of business and the only qualification for the reason to breed is, "Isn't it cute".... I read your statement and you stated this was a one time thing and you where not a breeder, was this an accidental pregnancy?.... I can understand the senders position, the intention was good but the target may have been missed since you are not breeding for profit...I guess they got a little overzealous in their cause... I'm glad you where responsible and had them tested and fixed so this medical problem didn't continue in any future pups.... |

No We Wanted One Litter. Because We Love The Yorkie And Maltese Breed. |
Love to see pictures. |
Everyone has an opinion, and if you feel you did what was the best for them, and you don't let the email upset you. |
You have gone through a heartbreak and I do understand your side but also the side of the emailer that took a whack at you. I know you had intended to just have a nice litter of puppies once for whatever reason and from your intentions you were not in it to make some money. In the process, you also have learned that breeding of any kind even just once is a huge responsibility. It is also evident which I have been trying to get across on this forum, mixes do not have hybrid vigour, they can have the same genetic and congenital faults of any purebred. The risk can sometimes even be higher if there has been no testing on the parents or dogs in either parents lines. Going through the heartbreak and anguish that you have gone through to discover LS in your boy Duke and problems in the puppies I know has been unbelievably hard. There isn't a long time breeder around that hasn't gone through heartbreaks, anguish, disappointments, wanting to hang up the whelping box and say forget this, I am not doing it. You had the bad luck in your very first litter of things happening. I am so glad you posted what happened as it does give a good reason for others considering that 'just one litter'. Good luck with your dogs and pups that you have that it will turn out okay for them. |

When Dukes Start Haven Problems With The Liver. The Vet Told Me With His Children To Wait Until They Have Symptoms. Plus The Vet Told Me Sinces They Morkies Most Likely They Wouldn't Get It. But I Did Got Them Tested Anyway. And Out Of 4 Dogs Only One Test Result Came Back Normal. I Did The Test Again After 3 Months Last Monday. Thank God Now 3 Out Of 4 Came Back Normal. |

Maltese are even more notorious for LS. |
LS Lorraine is so right!! Maltese have more live shunt then Yorkies.. Sometimes posters have to remember where we are..A Yorkie forum, full of die hard Yorkie lovers...when people mess with the breeder some of us can be testy! It would be the same on a Maltese forum..etc... |
I am glad that Duke's offspring are better now and everything is working out for you. This is why it is very important to have dogs tested before breeding them, not just when they seem to be having a problem. If you'd known ahead of time that Duke had this problem, then you would have known he shouldn't be bred at all for this reason alone. In any case, it is good that you are giving the pups a good home and doing what is neccessary to ensure them the healthiest lives possible. I am sure they will all be spoiled in no time.:p |
