Interior painting I absolutley hate painting. I painting my master bath and I just rolled a second coat , after about 20 minutes I go back in there and there are bubbles eveywhere on the walls..the paint bubbled up. Does anyone know what could have caused this? I don't know what to do,I tried rolling them out but it just made MESS. I guess I will have to let it dry a few days and sand the walls.....:eek: :mad: :thumbdown |
Rolling too fast, wet roller, not using a good quality paint or roller. Was it primed first? I work in the paint dept at Lowes, and get questions like this all the time. |
Sounds like moisture is under the paint and it lost adhesion...did someone use the shower in between coats, was the first coat completely dry?...you may have to scrape and sand the bubbles and reprime the walls...let it dry and see what you have to deal with...I'd hate to be the lucky one to tackle this job....:rolleyes: |
I did prime first.. a few days ago,I rolled the first coat on yesterday. So it was dry. Could it be that I was rolling it on thick? |
Could be. Make sure you are using the right roller for the paint you are using. 3/8" is pretty good for most sheens. A shorter nap may give a smoother finish. |
Just reread and realized it was the second coat that bubbled. If the first coat was smooth, then, yes, there is moisture either on the wall or in the roller. |
Nope, there wasn't any moisture from using the shower,but maybe it is our hot humid weather.:rolleyes: |

Was it BEHR paint. I think that paint sucks big ones. There is always some issue with that paint. I refuse to use it now. Don't get me started on painters tape. Sorry that happened. I would venture to say that it was the humidity in the air. |
valspar :thumbdown That is one brand that is overpiced IMO and has the consitency of pudding and very hard to work with. I will never use that paint again. Im using a 3/8 inch nap roller. I bought them at lowes,cant remeber the name. The paint Im using is from walmart ,I have always had great results with this paint. Now, let me add this ..I used a oil based primer and a latex paint.Could that have anything to do with it? |
Not that it helps right now...or maybe it will if you have to roll over with another paint... The very best paint I have found happens to be really good priced. I use the American Tradition from Lowes. There's just something about it...it rolls on easily and gets into all the paint texture on the walls, unlike Behr that is so thick, it rolls over the grooves and leaves lots of white specks. I think the Lowes' paint is now $20 a gallon. It used to be $18, but with how much everything in the world has gone up, it is still a pretty good price. STay away from Glidden. It is so thin, you will be using more coats and it costs more in the end. |

You can put latex paint over oil, but not the other way around. Oil is good for prepping high-gloss surfaces, but the Valspar latex primer does the job, too. You can always call Valspar Customer Service - they are very helpful. The number is on the can - here it is:1-888-313-5569. I have about 20 cans sitting by my desk waiting for me to get my butt in gear and start painting. |
