I went up and had lunch with my sister and she really looks alot better, she has lost some of the fluid in her body which is good, she isnt as bloated. When they finally realized how bad she was retaining water they were smart enough to finally take her off all the saline fluids IV they were pumping into her which were making her feel just awful. She still hasnt seen the doctor today with the ecocardiogram results. It seems to take forever to get any test results. |
Oh Im so sorry to hear about this! :( Has she ever had health problems before or was this just a sudden unexplained thing? How terrible for her, you and your family. My prayers are with you! They make low sodium tomato sauce now! You could make a spaghetti sauce using that. I'd ask the doctor to make sure though just in case. I don't know how much sodium is in pasta itself but I do know that most red sauces are loaded with it. So the low sodium one might be a good way to let her enjoy her pasta still! My grandfather is on a low sodium diet and has been for most of his life. I know he eats normal foods but they are fresh foods and baked/broiled, not fried. He also stays away from red meat. He buys salt free potato chips and peanuts. Its not a horrible lifestyle change. Just takes some adjusting. Good Luck!!! :) |
So sorry to here about your sister, it can be so difficult when a family member is ill, it's such a helpless feeling when all you want to do is help in some way, & all you can do is wait......It may be Congestive Heart Failure she has, my dad has that & has to watch his salt intake also ...I hope she is feeling better soon.... |

I just found this thread. I'm so sorry your sister is having such a tough time. I'm glad the doctors are beginning to help her and hope all turns out well. Sending up another prayer for her and your family. |
I'm so sorry to hear this. :( I hope she gets better real soon! |
I will keep your sister in my prayers! My husband has a problem with his heart going into abnormal rythmns and recently was diagnosed with Congestive Heart failure and has to stay on a low sodium diet. Basically, stay away from any processed foods (canned, boxed and frozen and canned soups) because they are loaded with sodium. Even the ones that say "low sodium" have alot. This is a good link. http://www.abouthf.org/module2/default.htm |

Prayers headed out that your sis gets better fast:love: Using lots of fresh herbs can help ease the pain of giving up salt. Throw out her salt shakers! The body does need some sodium to operate, so while she should avoid any extra added salt, and highly processed foods, she doesn't have to be on a NO sodium diet;) If she sticks to fresh unprocessed foods, she'll do great. I love the Mrs. Dash seasonings myself, you don't really miss the salt they are good:thumbup: |
Dear Shana, I just read this post and am sending out prayers for your sister. My Mom was a salt free diet years ago. It was difficult, but if you check out the supermarket now there are a lot of low sodium foods available now. Judy |
I will most definitely keep your sister in my Prayers Shana :) |
Thank you everyone for your prayers, my sister finally went home from the hospital yesterday and is feeling much better. |
Much better the whole way around? Is everything GETTING better? Did they put her on water pills? I pray she has a full recovery with no complications. How stressful and scarey! |
