Generic vs Brand Name Birth Control Pills My daughter is getting everything in order to start her 4th or 5th round of Accutane, can't remember exactly which now since we started at 17 and she is now 33, her nodular cystic acne has returned again and she is out of options. The dermatologist has tried everything but even if it works she builds up an immunity to it after a few months. She hasn't been on the pill in a couple years because it just added to the problem but 2 forms of birth control are required for the doctor to prescribe the drug. She is looking at generic bc pills because they would be only 10.00 a month vs 40.00+ for brand name which would help her budget due to the expense of monthly doctors visits, blood test etc. Do any of you have any recommendations, of course I'm looking for something with the least side effects. Thanks for your input |
sorry i haven't been on any of the generics. I've taken ortho tri-cyclin lo for the past couple years (serious mood swings on the regular  heh) my acne practically disappeared on the pill. thank god. so i use that and clinique products |
I use generic ortho cyclin and used to use generic ortho tri cyclin- no problems at all with either one. |
i used to be on Micrette but for the past few years i've been taking the generic Kariva and no problems, just alot cheaper a month :) |
I've quit taking birth control altogether because all of the side effects it gives me. I have only found one that works good with no side effects, microgestin. It is a generic of Lo estrin 24, which gave me the worst side effects. Enpresse made me angry all the time. Ortho tri cyclin cramped my stomach. I've tried 3 or 4 others also, just can't recall their names. |
I have taken Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo and Yasmin and I liked both. I have to say I didn't have side effects with either. My friend uses Accutane and used the ortho with it. She has also had some relapses but I told her about the daily face wash that I use and she went out and bought it. It stopped my breakout and has helped her tremendously. If you are interested, it is Clearasil Daily Face Wash Sensative Formula. It's no more than 4 or 5 bucks. Hope this helps a little. |
I used to use orthotricyclene low but switched to Seasonale when it came out (only 4 periods a year!). The pharmacy tried to give me generic once but I wouldn't take it. For some things generic is fine, but I just don't think birth control is something to mess around with... LOL |
I used to take Orthotricyclen but the change in hormones made me nuts. So i switched to Levlan 28 (thats the name brand) but Target fills the generic which is Portia 28 and I've found that its the same as the Levlan. |
I used to take accutane! I've taken it twice so far and I was on the pills the first time and on the patch the 2nd time. I loved the patch cause I'm so bad at taking pills but now I think it's not available :( I was on Ortho btw. |
i take generic mircette. starts with a k, i think the stuff listed above. there is also a thread on Birth Control and you might find some others listed in that. also, my generics on BCBS is $20, but on Aetna it was only 10 :( |
